I've now priced the frame and wheels and £160 and £75 respectively.
@Lintel26 @tomsvoboda let me know if the price drop on the frame is of interest.
-
@wheel_or_no_wheel got my pricing wrong on the stem. Happy to let the 100mm stem go for £22.50 with postage if that sways it for you
-
-
@wheel_or_no_wheel I'd take £25 for the stem + postage.

@tomsvoboda:

@tomsvoboda: someone else has dibs on frame currently. Will update here if that falls through

Thanks for sharing that @user152220. I didn’t know Campag were now making one for standard Ultra-Torque.
I would say it’s safe to assume it uses the Campag standard sleeve as that’s what’s used on all the other BB cup variations. From experience, this fits closely around the spindle, so hopefully it will give you the clearance you need.

Thanks for all the detail @gfk_velo; that makes total sense.
Looking at third party options, this one suggests that’s it’s also compatible with Ekar.
In practical terms, are the bearing dimensions different, to your knowledge?
-
I'd like to know if I can use the Campagnolo Pro-Tech BB cups - intended for Ekar - with a Super Record crankset.
I'm led to believe Ekar and Super Record are both Ultra-Torque, but it's unclear whether this is a standard (same spacing etc) or just a reference to the hearth joint design.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

I run 25mm tyres on 17mm internal width rims. Measured width is 26mm or thereabouts.
Officially the Super Acciaio takes 25mm but a friend has used 28mm for a Roubaix trip without any problems.
The clearance is tightest where the chainstays join the BB shell but that may have changed since the 2017 model I have. 28mm measured is a sensible max I reckon.
Edit: just remembered I did have some 19mm rims with 25mm Corsas that measured at 27ish mm. No problems.

@miloas I’ve owned a rim brake Super Acciaio since 2017, so I can give my impressions of it.
- Handling - it’s a UCI-approved race frame so it’s designed to be responsive. Short chainstays and a short wheelbase overall. I wouldn’t describe the Super Acciaio as twitchy however. I’ve got no handling issues to speak of after 5 years of consistent riding.
- Riding - super comfortable and lively. Gets up to speed just fine. Obviously heavier than aluminium/titanium/carbon frames but I personally don’t have an issue with that.
All in all, I love it and would choose it over any other bike. I saved up for a high-end carbon frame and then really didn’t get on with it. Horrible plasticky clattering along the road and it felt uncomfortably rigid and characterless.
I’ve gone back to my Super Acciaio because I love it. So much that I’ve ordered a fully custom disc brake version of it from Condor.

Owned since 2017 but have not been used consistently.
They have a few tiny cosmetic marks on them but they are functionally perfect. Freehub and hub bearings running smoothly but are probably due for a service soon.
Braking surface in good condition (see photos).
Campagnolo freehub.
Post or pick-up from Berkhamsted.
