See the firing rate differences in that same article. The shootings using a bump stock have a fire rate disturbingly close to automatic fire, far exceeding semi automatic fire. This makes a huge difference in terms of outcome, when terrorists like the Las Vegas shooter kept multiple weapons on hand in order to avoid spending mere seconds reloading.

https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-covid-propaganda/
The Pentagon reportedly ran a secret anti-vax campaign to discredit China during the covid pandemic.
One reads about horrible campaigns and tests and campaigns run on unwitting populations by western intelligence agencies and militaries, and it feels like they’re a thing of the past. Shocking to see this happening nowadays.

Idk what you can do
There’s a few ways of affecting (or more correctly, effecting, I think?) cultural change. The principal causes and main actors are already identified. Suing them into the ground and campaigning against anyone who supports them is a start, but comes with consequences most people are understandably afraid to face: financial hardship, social isolation, legitimate security concerns about gun-toting wackos.
Hollywood and the music industry are complicit with the gun industry in equating guns with play things rather than ultra-specific tools, and in reframing shooting a person as a footnote rather than a pivotal moment in a character’s life. They occasionally pay lip service to the victims of violence but you don’t see A listers putting their money where their mouth is and refusing roles.
The demilitarisation of the police post-9/11 is something that will require a much greater effort.

The killer was an asshole who wanted to play cops and robbers.
Yep, it’s fucked, and I think the prosecutor should focus on that. A family lost a son, two teens witnessed a friend cut down beside them in cold blood in broad daylight, and another poor confused innocent child would have had to call mom to get them from tkd because his dad was arrested for murdering a kid.
I expect he wouldn’t have drawn as readily on an old white guy or a white woman with the same bb gun, as they wouldn’t fit his preconceived notion of a nefarious persona.
The prosecutor claiming some bullshit about specialist training being required to prevent crime is absolutely unnecessary and only promotes an agenda. Any reasonable person seeing this situation can see that the problem is the guy is unhinged and committed a murder, not that he lacked some supposed magical training that somehow still results in cops killing innocent people including kids.

I fundamentally disagree with the approach that the prosecutor is taking against the shooter. Firstly, people should be allowed to prevent the commission of crimes legally, and a standard of reasonableness should be applied in determining what a person can do in the ‘safe prevention of crime’. Secondly, making it out that preventing a crime safely and legally is some sort of complex calculation that requires specific prior training available only to law enforcement does at least two things that are detrimental to a democratic society: it sets a baseline premise that tackling crime and using force reasonably is very difficult, so police should naturally have a degree of leeway when they fuck up and kill someone innocent; and it completely disempowers reasonable people from aiding victims of a crime, lest they be punished for stepping on the cops’ toes. I’ll caveat this by saying that intense, serious training should definitely be necessary for people given the power to use deadly force in the heat of the moment, but realistically in most of the US they don’t take it as seriously as they do in Europe. I would have hoped the prosecutor focus instead on the unreasonable and illegal use of deadly force by the accused, especially if the fucker did stand over a 17 year old and shoot him extra dead.
Altogether a tragedy, with many families ruined by a dumb fuck with a gun. The NRA and gun lobby should face lawsuits for their propaganda bs. The nauseating number of times I’ve heard or read the ‘good guy with a gun’ phrase… which leads exactly to this.

Even Biden is now saying it’s apparent that Netanyahu is using the war to stay in power. Gantz’ resignation puts Bibi further in the bind that he was already in: having to maintain approval of the far right factions to maintain his government, without totally losing US support or being seen to provoke a regional war that will get more Israelis killed.

They are fine as long as you have the money and expertise to store nuclear waste securely for hundreds of years.
Apparently France changing to nuclear was a major advance in the global fight against climate change.
I read recently a (Finnish? Swedish?) proposal to bury nuclear waste deep underground. Oil and gas companies have the expertise to reach thousands of meters underground, and they could deposit depleted uranium rods (within their respective lead containers etc etc) within those shafts. They would be more easily secured that way, and would be available if technology were developed allowing us to make use of the material.

That sucks. I had that a lot in my career when I was younger, due to ageism and possibly some racism as well as general assumption of incompetence.
Not to offer unrequested advice, but depending on how busy you are and how many fucks you have left to give, are you able to stand your ground? I assume you’re busy or value your work, otherwise you’d could just coast from confirmation to confirmation.
‘Hi Name. Yes: I’ve checked and rechecked the maths/had the conversations/ sought confirmation. Grateful if you’d proceed with X.’ followed by a ‘Name, As discussed, I’ve double confirmed this. I won’t be doing what you’ve asked me to repeat since it places unnecessary pressure on my team for no impact. Please proceed with X.’. Freed up a lot of my time.
