I’ve been using one for near a year now, would recommend for a home mechanic. The clamp isn’t strong enough by itself to hold the bike while you apply any major torque, like to a bottom bracket. That said, you can brace the bike with your spare hand and that solves it.

The only issue I had was one of the nuts holding the leg came off at some point, nearly collapsed under a large bike. Fixed by adding an extra nylon lock nut.

I seem to have sold the front calliper. I only have the rear. Yours for £10 if you want it.

I need to order replacement keys for my Kryptonite lock but the
serial number is very worn down on the key.

Might not work now but a few years ago I sent kryptonite a message/email a explaining I’d lost the keys to an expensive lock of theirs I had at home (instead of locked in public to a bike). I sent my lock number and some pics, and they sent me a key, which I promptly registered with their keysafe programme.

Giant use something similar to the one pictured. You’d need a massive Allen key (12mm?) to take it off. Very straightforward to replace though. I used Giantbikespares when I had to order freehubs for the shop, they’re really nice and knowledgeable about Giant wheels, prices are good too.

COVID-19

I meant to write sars-cov-2, but the points are related.

Scientists and the military have been studying viruses for a long time now, and even nasty bugs like smallpox, dengue and HIV don’t seem to cause the plethora of signs and symptoms associated with sars-cov-2 infection. Is your point that other similarly bad bugs haven’t had the same opportunity to show their capabilities? Or is it that we haven’t come across another virus as varied and unpredictable in its effects as sars-cov-2? It’s the second question I’m looking for an answer to.

(I know that ‘bad’ and ‘bug’ aren’t formal terms.)

Would you simply say 'lo vi en bicicleta' rather than trying to translate, he cycled past me?

Ah right, I thought you’d meant cycle past like in traffic.

Probably varies by region, but I’d say pasar. E.g., Lo ví pasar (en bicicleta), I saw him/it pass by (on a bike). Pasó en bicicleta frente a mi trabajo, he/it cycled past my workplace.

You can also use ‘pasar’ for ‘pass/stop by’: pasé por un café antes del trabajo.

Not sure why I specified ‘he/it’, as it’s probably a ‘he’ if he/it is riding a bike. Although I suppose bears can ride bikes too.

In Chile

Haha, that’s the issue right there. Chileans have a reputation for using so much local lingo that it’s barely recognisable as Spanish. On top of that, they seem to like switching things around.

Voy en bici al trabajo. De hecho, me muevo en bicicleta a todos lados (in fact, I cycle everywhere).

Eg2. how would you say '(s)he cycled past me' - and can you say it without using the word bike?

(3rd person) Me rebasó (surpassed me).
(1st person = yo) lo/la rebasé.
Me rebasó en bicicleta, if you want to specify they were on a bike.
