Ah nice. A track with such history shouldn't be replaced imo, but a new surface every now and then is probably necessary. We were supposed to get a new surface in Amsterdam as well this year, but covid delayed that for at least another year. The track here used to be outdoor and got a roof somewhere in the late 80s or early 90s, supposedly it's still the same surface.

One last velodrome pic. 't Kuipke in Ghent, during last year's six day event. The one where Cav crashed during his flying lap. 166m, supershort track. Feels like a mary-go-round, except that it also smells like piss and beer and it's packed with drunk people. Fun fun fun.

Sorry for making a big mistake by asking this ignorant question, but why is this bike worth that kind of money? Except from being rare and unused that is, what's the story behind it?

Nah I'm just bad at making jokes. This is by far the most incredible DIY restoration I've seen. The fact that you started this project considering the state it was in, shows that you sir have balls, self confidence and copious amount of skill. Did I say balls already? It's beautiful and deserves a full SR gruppo. But then again I think you have way more sense of imagination than I do. Really looking forward to the full build.

Do you have a special technique for switching saddles with that simple but (imo) annoying clamp? I have something similar though bit less distinguished on my mxl, a VanNicholas post. Bloody PITA to get a saddle on there, even more so or next to impossible to get it off. I've found instructions online how to do it: you apparently have to 'open' the cilindric ti clamp as much as you can (where the two bolts sit, after removing them obvs) with whatever the fuck you can (there's no special tool for it), without forcing it too much, so you can push out the lower of the two alu half cilinders et voila. Please note: not a good idea to put on a cf rails saddle.

I'm very much hoping you have a better alternative or perhaps the design of the moots post differs and is less flawed. In that case I'm even more happy for you than I already was considering all those nice bikes and garden :)
