Yes I use a cheap Amazon/ eBay one. My son and I ended up with a few half used canisters and kept buying new ones because we felt nervous about running out when away.
I warm one canister in warm water and chill the other in the freezer.
I looked up the empty weights to work out max fill and have accidentally gone about 5% over. -

A more technical answer is that the tools, springs and liners are held together with pins that are then peened over. The red scales then clip onto the ends of these pins, this requires a fairly fine tolerance.
The people modding them are using long thin torx bolts and different scales.
Replacing the main blade is doable but it would be an effing fiddly job to do and get the clamping force right so the blade opened smoothly. Then probably play around with the scale so it fits, (or just glue it) -

We got a note through the door of my Mother-in-Laws house within days of her passing away asking if we were selling the house.
Since then we have had multiple “so sorry to hear about Jenny, what are you doing about her house” conversations. Some with added “it must be a bit run down, you’ll be wanting to shift it quickly” avarice. -
