Nitto rack sold. Will give it a few more days before I start figuring out postage.
@thebikefelix did you figure out if you wanted the mudguards?
@kvragu cheers. I'll have a think about what I'd want for the Kobo and let you know

Having a mini clearout. Collection from Wood Green/N22 much preferred. I work a few days a week at Imperial (south ken), so can also potentially meet there or somewhere en route.
I don't really have the time or packing materials for posting anything at the moment, but feel free to register your interest and if they don't sell locally then I can maybe sort postage out.

Started working at Imperial last week after my contract got moved over from QMUL. New commute from wood green to south ken is err.. interesting. I'm used to getting cut up by deliveroo boys on scooters, but this morning was delayed by the changing of the guards at buckingham palace. Told to get off and walk for no apparent reason as the bike lane was empty, felt a bit entitled and grumpy about it but kind of got his point after being barged into by tourists trying to get a photo and not looking where they were going.
My ride home last week was my first experience using the cycle superhighway along the thames during rush hour. Fuck me there's some shocking cycling on display there, both from aggro bro-muters and clueless twats on boris bikes. Probably got a bit too het up about it, gonna try and channel Ogmios on the way home today
I miss my old commute down the lea river towpath - inefficient, slow but so much more chill than dealing with central london

Made some progress on the Raleigh royal this morning, thanks in part to helpful people on the mechanics and fixing thread. Found a stem which will go in past the min insertion point, so I'm less worried about it being road worthy. Also tried out some jtek thumbie adapter things to use with the bar end shifters that originally came with the bike. Annoyingly I didn't realize they don't come with barrel adjusters, I managed to harvest one from an old derailleur but need another one for the left thumbie. I think it looks great with these shifters and a proper quill stem, but will wait and see if my partner is happy with this setup...

Update: plucked up the courage to take the forks off, fortunately the headset has caged bearings so that made it a lot less stressful. Checked it against a straight edge and nothing's bent. I found another 25.4 stem I'd forgot I had, which luckily went in past the min insertion point, so the bike is at least safe to ride and I didn't have to worry about shimming the bars. Interestingly, each of the four stems I tried went in by different amounts, between 52mm and 67mm. So I guess that means that where the steerer tube walls get thicker, different stems fit further down depending on their actual diameter, which I guess differs slightly and isn't exactly 22.2mm on any of them? Anyway. Cheers all, think I can at least rest assured that the fork probably isn't fucked!

Thanks all, that's very useful advice. Will have a go at removing the fork this morning for closer inspection. If I understand @M_V's post correctly then it's likely nothing wrong with the fork, and I just need a shorter stem (or cut down the one I currently have). Definitely prefer that idea to needing to ream it or buy a new fork!
also why cant you use the original stem, are the new bars 31.8? If the old stem is 26.0 and your new bars 25.4 can just use a coke can shim
The bars are 25.4 so I can use a shim, but it would set the bars too low as it's not a riser stem ("drop stem"? Dunno what the word is), and my partner prefers an upright position. But I'm considering whether its easiest/safest overall to keep the OG stem and look for bars with enough rise to compensate, if they exist.

Got a second hand Raleigh royal for my partner. She wanted to swap drop bars for upright, so I've tried fitting a new riser stem. It won't go in beyond the minimum insertion point. Have tried different stems , the only one that seems to be safe to use is the one it came with (not a riser stem, and 26mm clamp so can't use it with the handlebars I have). Thinking perhaps it was over tightened at some point and now the fork steerer is bent/notched somehow. Thoughts? Fixable? Time for a new fork? I'm wondering if it can be reamed out slightly, but not sure if that's something a bike shop would be happy to do

Can recommend these reflective fabric stickers if you have a bag or jacket that isn't shiny enough: https://bookmanvisibility.com/collections/reflectors/products/reflective-fabric-stickers-strips

Looking for a decent but affordable lightweight tent, sleeping bag and sleeping mat. Would prefer to buy used for environmental and money reasons. Budget around £150 for all three items so I know I'm not gonna get everest base camp quality stuff! Just something I can fit comfortably on my bike for some mini UK tours I've got planned...

Also surely riding with constant strobe lighting everywhere (especially on a tow path or similar) must be an unpleasant headfuck for the owner of the strobe?!
Innit... I can't wrap my head around why they think it's a good idea. Maybe it comes out of the box with the flashy setting and they never bothered to try and change it?

Another cyclist coming towards me on the tow path last night with full beam head torch set to seizure-inducing flashy flashy mode. Shouted 'are you trying to give me a seizure?' at them and immediately felt like an arsehole, they were just trying to be safe I guess and probs oblivious to how it affects people cycling in the opposite direction... oh well, maybe they got the message?

The Trek got some new mudguards this week. Some nice matte black SKS alu ones from on here. Really pleased with them, but they were a right faff to get on - they have a square profile so they wouldn't fit neatly under the fork crown. Had a go at bodging an extension thingy with various bits I had laying around, but there was no way I was getting the front wheel in. I don't own (or trust myself with) a dremel so was a bit stuck really
After a bit of swearing and crying I decided to take it to Clever Mikes based on a recommendations from a few other people. What a great shop! The guy was super friendly and accommodating, did a far better job on the guards than I would have done if I had a dremel. 10/10 would buy the wrong mudguards again. (he also trimmed the stays on the rear guard but a combination of super stiff alu guards and funny shaped stays meant this is the closest fit he could get)
Yesterday I also added some cross top levers and replaced the bar tape and cables. Also having removed the racks for fitting the mudguards, I realised I hardly ever used the pizza rack, and I had a lovely but under-used carradice and QR support sitting in a box somewhere, so that went on. Annoyingly I've had to move the saddle back about 2cm to accommodate the bagman, so thinking an inline seatpost would solve that issue and give me an excuse to #buy more stuff
I notice this massively when wearing SPD shoes rather than trainers. Had to keep reminding myself to chill out on the way in this morning
