I've decided to finally give up on this frame due to lack of space and just not riding fixed gear very much at the moment. Pretty sure it's not worth anything, plus I originally found it in a skip about 10 years ago, so I'm happy to give it away to someone who might be able to breath new life into it (or make use of the scrap metal).
Measures 56cm c-c seat tube and top tube. I'm 5'11 and it's always felt a bit on the small side for me but that might be just how I had it set up.
It's definitely seen better days:
- headset feels very gritty
- bottom bracket has play
- there's something loose in the frame, presumably a bit of grit or a bearing, that makes a fun noise when you go over bumps
- the front fork has been drilled for modern brake calipers, but the nut is seized in place. Still possible to attach/detach a brake caliper by just spinning the whole thing, or you might be able to get the nut out with more know-how (and patience) than me.
- rear rack mounts have bolts seized in place, although I've never tried to remove them.
Good things:
- seatpost moves (with a bit of love)
- headset, bb, seatpost and chain included. although I wouldn't expect much life left in any of them
- erm, nice 'patina'?
- pump pegs!
Collection only please from N16. Never sold/given away anything on here before but think I've figured out the dibs/PM system. But be gentle if I've missed anything out etc!
- headset feels very gritty

No, sadly I lost the ones I had back in the day (on a mint green kid's raleigh lizard). These are NOS from ebay, got them in a set as a jokey present for my brother but couldn't resist keeping two for myself. Think I got six for a tenner but I've seen some of them for crazy prices as @Thrustvector says.

On the theme of functional 'foxes, here's my 1986 courier loaded up for a trip last week (London > Cambridge to visit my parents while avoiding the trains). ('scuse the bins in the back. I planned on taking some nicer photos during the ride but it ended up sharting it down so this is all I've got)
A few upgrades since the last time I posted it here: brookes saddle & carradice nelson w/ bagman adapter, because I want to pretend I'm in the rough stuff fellowship. Front rack to replace the stays that came with the wald basket. Handlebars & stem are temp replacements while I search in vain for some bullmoose bars, after the original bars got squished by a van while locked up. Replaced the rear derailleur with a cheapish new shimano one and super happy with the improved shifting, even if it looks a bit wack.
Been doing some lovely long towpath / 'gravel' rides on it since lockdown began. It's not fast but it's sooo comfy and fun to take off road.

Decided against the above option, then I got impatient and went round a few local bike shops to scout for some usable parts bin stuff, to very mixed success. Most shops were understandably too busy or didn't have the right parts, but managed to find this second hand quill stem with cable routing for a fiver. Then splurged on brand new handlebars which are a pretty close fit to the original bars but with slightly less rise. Could have probably got them cheaper online but it was good to see them in the flesh before buying I guess.
I think it looks pretty shite, and it handles weirdly now but I think that'll take some getting used to and a bit of fine-tuning. Considering this a temporary solution until I can find some nice quill stem bullmoose bars or similar.
Cheers @Ndeipi and others for the help!

is there any reason why a quill adapter + on-one bullmoose bars + fork mounted cable hanger wouldn't be ideal?
e.g.

I've given up on the idea of this being a quick n dirty fix so just exploring a few different options

yes mate, thanks so much. tbh all three of those looks like decent options, will let you know which one I go with.
good to know about bars. they're pretty horrible to ride on now and I don't know how I'd go about bending them back into shape - reckon I'll get some new ones at the same time as the stem
-
cheers pal - really helpful. Definitely wishful thinking that I could keep the stem - I just can't really deal with not having a rideable bike for more than a few days so was hoping it might be a quick and easy job of just chucking any old bars on for now.
I'm now thinking either quill stem + bars, or quill adapter + stem + bars. And then probably a fork mounted cable hanger so I can use a normal stem without worrying about the brake cable hole. Should be easier to find those parts than something closer to what I had before I reckon?

My bars have been bent out of shape, stem cracked and grips have been shredded possibly after being knocked by a van while locked up, or attempted nicking (see pics).
It's an '86 muddy fox courier which I use every day for pretty much everything including long rides as well as shopping + commuting. I'm not too fussy about keeping it's 'vintage' looks but I do like riser bars and I'm keen to have a canti brake friendly setup (I really like the cable routing on the old stem), and bars which will work with my wald basket.
If anyone near stoke newington/finsbury park/hackney area has some second hand parts that would suit this bike let me know, happy to collect. Ideally low budget but I could be easily tempted by something nice like those bullmoose bars+stem combos you see sometimes. My very unrealistic dream is to find some velo orange klunkers for sale nearby... you never know

Just went to go for a ride to find my bike's been bumped by a van while locked up outside my flat. Brakes, gears, wheel and fork all seem fine and unscathed but the bars are well bent and it looks like the stem's cracked. Plus my nice old ritchey grips are mangled. See pics below.
This is my eighties muddy fox courier which I use for everything. Got a few questions, I'm pretty new here so hope this is the right place to post!
- is the stem fucked? Looks like a big crack but will I die if I keep using it?
- suggestions for replacement bars / stem (if fucked) / grips?
- any ideas what size stem and bars should I be looking for? I'm hoping to find some decent second hand bars and stem but not entirely sure what size everything is. I don't have calipers or anything so hoping someone knows just from the pictures and era of bike.

Seems relevant to this thread: Anyone know much about the olympic park off-road trail? I never usually go out that way but have been riding round on hackney marshes on my State-Sanctioned Daily Unit of Exercise during less busy times of day and saw the entrance to the trail and was more than a little tempted to have a nip round it. Never got round to trying it in the pre-covid days and I didn't realise it would be so easy to get onto without having to go through any barriers etc. Do many people just go up and use it without paying when it's closed?
-
Nope! It's surprisingly fine there. I'm not sure about putting it on the forks as those kryptonite mounts swing about very easily. The seat stays stop it from touching the rear wheel but there'd be nothing to stop it from getting caught in the spokes if it's on the forks! I've seen people put them on their seatposts which would work if your seat's high enough.

The frame has now been taken. Cheers.
