Been a right while since I last posted, have since moved to Belfast. Rockhopper is currently in pieces with a barnacle fork alongside it waiting to be rebuilt.

I quickly built up another 26” bike for commuting, out of various parts I had acquired off of here and a lovely 1989 Kona lavadome frame.

Featuring the original wheels from way way back that came on the rockhopper ( given a little tlc)

1” threaded to 1” threadless adapter, with a 1” to 1 1/8” shim and it works a charm!

Stx rc 7 speed, so definitely a shorter pull

On the lookout for a 11 speed compatible friction thumb shifter. My Microshift left mounted under bar on the right isn’t giving me enough cable pull for my new rd.

Got myself a nice new Deore m5100 rd, I’m pairing it with a Microshift left hand thumbie mounted upside down on the right side (Grant Peterson style) but I don’t seem to get enough cable pull to get through the full range of my cassette.

The setup worked fine on my prior rd, is there a cheap workaround to this I.e a jtek shift mate? Or am i going to need to start looking for a new thumbie?

I’ve heard of that place but never managed to get around to going! After Tokyo Toys closed down there hasn’t been much in the offering of Gunpla in central London, bar the overpriced offerings at Forbidden Planet.

Finally making some changes to the Rockhopper, haven’t been feeling this build has been living up to its potential recently. With the original swap away from the Bullmoose to the 110mm (way too long) and the wide Nittos I felt the from end just didn’t sit right. Ended up looking like a strange mtb/trials combo imo.

Luckily @Maj came through with the goods, now that she has the ultimate bmx sweepers, I was able to give the Stooge Junkers a go along with the overkill Thomson bmx stem.

I also decided to swap the nearing retirement age stx derailleur for a nice shiny Deore m5100 😍 and added a fender flute to lower the from mudguard at the request of almost everyone who layer their eyes on them.

Will update with ride comments when I get around to finding some longer gear outer to finish off the tinkering!

Ended up going with ezeeplan gave them a call and where able to sort out some oversize A0 patterns for 3.98 and regular A0 for 1.99 let’s hope they turn out alright. So far was under 24 hours to send files get confirmation printed and posted! Is a slightly thicker 90gsm paper so should be pretty hardy patterns.

Looks like a great material also! To be honest I will probably just end up going with some breathable nylon, until I can get around to going round a few fabric shops and seeing what’s available, always find it hard looking for fabric on the net never really knowing what to search for.

Us based though, will get stung on customs, was hoping for a stockist in the jk but seems not to be the way!

Might be using the wrong search terms, but I’m struggling to find any cotton ripstop. All I’m getting in search results is nylon coated/uncoated. Wanted to make some shorts from it so wanted it a bit nicer on the skin.

I absolutely could, my printer is out of ink at the minute so was just seeing the pricing on getting a pattern printed at a print shop. Seems to be a few good options on the net so I guess I’ll go with one and report back!
