Anyone know the closest alternative to a chromecast audio these days? Looks like the ebay sellers are running out as the prices are all extortionate - don't need anything too fancy, just to save me digging through piles of old cds as most of my stuff is on the computer in one format or another anyway. Old Cambridge A500 amp so it would need to run a phono-3.5mm cable & the network speaker we have in the living room runs via Google home.
Cheers!

I took a pop on the panettone as desert at my works Christmas do last week - half expected some poncy cupcake sized thing however was presented by a huge plate filled with 2 inch thick slabs of a full scale number accompanied by a wee pot of thin home made custard for dipping it in - was marvelous although I don't think so can face another one this side of Christmas

Update on these mofos - after getting nowhere with Grenson I threw caution to the wind & set about them with some acetone to strip off any remaining dye then gave them a good rub over with some really oily saphir stuff to see if it would stick to whatever the hell the surface coating is, left them for a bit then buffed off gently with a soft cloth, not too bad - the surface certainly looks more like leather than crocs now anyway... might just leave it at that as I've no idea if the clear polish will just rub off again. Lesson learned!

Cheers guys - they don't look terrible but I do want to darken them a bit, gonna go over them again & get rid of all traces of the renovator that didn't really take - I have some clear saphir stuff that's really oily I might leave on them for a bit to see if that soaks in at all to give a pigmented polish something to work with, have emailed Grenson with a pic to see if they have any ideas too

Yeah I'll fire them an email, they'll probably offer their renovation service at £110 but apart from this issue they're pretty much spot on so would rather find a way to do it myself if possible... last time I went into the shop it was like something from the fast show so I'll stick to emailing them

The original finish was nice, would like to replicate that if possible but it was obviously applied at the factory by someone with more aptitude for this kind of thing than me!
The main stumbling block is the base finish on the leather, I thought it was a pale grey leather which had been overdyed then partially buffed off again but it feels almost like a matt patent finish & nothing will stick to it, never seen anything like it before...
Without seeing it it's difficult to imagine - even pictures won't show the texture properly, sound familiar to anyone?
-
Alrighty - I have a pair of Grenson Ellery monk straps that I've had for a bit & need some advice on refinishing... the original finish was almost like an antiqued grey effect which got scuffed / buffed off every time anything touched them & they got old looking very quickly. I was giving them a "right good" clean & pretty much all of the original finish came off leaving a kinda pale grey waxy finish underneath that I don't know how to proceed with, polish won't stick to it, so I tried some TRG renovator but that just wipes off in a weird streaky fashion too - best I got with that was to sponge it on lightly to get an even finish bit it's still really easily taken off again... will get some pics later but below is what they looked like originally, anyone any ideas?

That sounds familiar, they might well have been at some point- not sure if they ran nights there or were more involved tbh... it briefly closed a couple of years ago, the council had left it alone for years as there was never any hassle but I think there was some after hours shenanigans in the area that brought the spotlight on them & enforced a slight hiatus... techno will never die, lol

Haha, small world - I took a couple of my mates from down south one night & they were amazed a place like that could still exist "yeah mate, you just walk through through the deserted inustrial estate for a couple of blocks, entrance is round the back of the random Indian restaurant on the right" they got right into the swing of things eventually & weren't seen for 2 days afterwards :D
Think optimo are playing there soon, I casually mentioned this to my wife a couple of weeks ago who cut me off mid sentence reminding me we are the wrong side of 40 & possess an extremely loud toddler who does not care if you are ever feeling fragile...

The first few tracks on that live set are right up my street - my 2 year old heard it coming from the phone & demanded it be put on the tv and is now spinning in circles at 80mph declaring she loves "tenko"
There's a great techno club in Paisley in the basement of an Indian restaurant in the arse end of nowhere - it's mental but gets some pretty good guests, club69, bit of an institution up here

Cheers, probably not the most imaginative build but I had my fun & that's all that matters, got the gear cables to fit & some leather bartape then that's it done. Forever. Honest.
The bars are indeed Ritchey classics - well spotted, got them a few years ago when I first built this up, think they stopped doing the Evo curve model for a while, must have brought them back - nice shape, shiny, what's not to like?
Was -5 in Glasgow yesterday, it might not see the light of day until April at this rate...

Impatient thread bump
nearly finished a slow motion update on this thing, out went the Campag Athena group / Record wheels and slowly slowly, a DA 9000 groupset appears in its place (shifters are 8000 because balls to paying twice the price for titanium clamps and a Dura Ace logo...), wheels are DA 9000 on Open Pros that were swiped from my other bike - I managed to find a set of cheap 6800 to replace them so it didn't feel too bad about being shafted so everyone's happy.
I may even take a photo with an actual camera instead of a mangled phone once it's properly finished, shock horror!

Well, I decided to dip my toe into the MTB side of things again, god knows when I'll get time to ride it but the local woods are only a couple of minutes away & there's enough there to keep me occupied for an hour or so, so it'll give me an option once the weather properly turns. Has been looked after so generally in decent nick but up close has plenty of scratches / rub, "patina" I think they call it, or "what colour will I powder coat his thing?" as it'll end up being known...
Small frame so forks are set to a rather unfashionable 80mm, I'll give them a quick service & change the travel spacers to give 100/120mm which will as a bonus will give me a slightly more fashionable head angle too - original tyres were pretty done so fired a cheap set of 2.35" numbers on there for a bit of added squish, pretty pleased with it so far but I can already see me changing the bar/stem/post & powder coating the frame, thus defeating the purpose of buying a cheap hack MTB but hey ho...

Cheers guys - looks like both press in from the non disc side after all, the disc side has a bit of a lip but other than that and a couple of circlips it's a straight bore right through the axle - just seemed like a bizarre thing to do, but thinking about it with the axle size and the Centrelock spline size being the limiting factors there's no much room for a decent sized bearing to go in from the disc side really...
Cheers!

Searched the Mavic site with the serial number from the wheel & it should defo be 6804 in the hub - here's pics of the actual bearing that was removed from the non disc side sitting in both sides of the hub... wtf? The disc side bearing was mullered to death upon removal before I realized this issue so I don't have the shrapnel from the other bearing to compare...
Unless I'm supposed to heeft the disc side bearing across from the other side of the hub shell, is this a thing?

A totally different setup but I had problems connecting my Cambridge Yoyo to my tv via the HDMI ARC when I first got it - was just as flaky as you're describing, could not get it to play through certain inputs & even then the volume sync was fucked - eventually solved it by disconnecting every single possible connector & power lead and leaving it for a while, then connected everything back up before switching it all back on again, started working perfectly - no lag, nothing, switches perfectly every time I change source now & volume sync is back - dunno what was up but that seemed to work.
