Does anyone have experience of converting braze- on Simplex reftrofriction shifters (this kind) to band-on?

What's the best/cheapest way to get a tandem from the edge of the Peak District (c.15 miles east of Manchester Piccadilly) down to Bedford (or London, at a push) , given that I don't drive?

I was toying with the idea of cycling to Manc and booking a slot on a Virgin train but I'm not entirely sure I trust the bike to be ridden that far without looking it over properly, and if it fails beyond a rudimentary repair I'm pretty much screwed. It's not exactly going to fit in a taxi...

So, this looks sketchy as fuck... I guess it's a long shot to ask if anyone is missing a rear wheel, but does anyone know if there's anything that can be done to flag it? Roberts tandem... Campagnolo Rally rear mech which is pretty rare in itself. Doesn't seem to be much interest so might be worth keeping an eye to see if price drops if it doesn't sell.

Nice one. If it really is that tough, then you could always try a bit of neatsfoot oil to soften it up. Not too much though, as there's a risk it could over-stretch it.
