Hi there - looking for some advice.
I had to replace my rear axle last night.
The original has shoulders to support the cartridge bearings.
I've replaced this with a solid threaded bar.
The bearings sit inside the hub on a lip, so they can't move inwards. I've put enough nuts and spacers on the axle so that it sits tight between the dropouts. Hope the diagram explains this:This arrangement seems to be working - it got me safely to work this morning. But will it work long term? Or I am heading for some spectacular bearing fail very soon? Thanks in advance

Hello - I'm after a bit of advice about this Bontrager crankset. My old faithful Fillmore has exactly the same crankset as in the picture above. I've had it from new since around 2007, and I'd like to replace it with something a bit less scuffed and creaky. But I can't find anything with the same type of fitting. Is this two-piece, hollow axle design still available from anywhere? And if I have to swap to a new crankset, with presumably a new bottom bracket, what are my options? Thanks in advance
Thanks mate - it's a bit of a bodge, but I now feel reassured that it will get me through to the weekend without killing me!
