Na, I've slept out in summer in the hammock in just a sleeping bag and been fine. Wasn't a particularly hot night but it wasn't cold/raining either so take that as a very small sample size. Testing is best ting, even if you just go out for an hour and read your bike one night, you'll get a good idea. But imo don't both taking it because you can always layer up inside your sleeping bag if you're cold.

Thanks but I want some gears and more interested in the larger end of the spectrum. Pjhobs I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough with bikes to be able to have an idea what a bike rides like without having ridden it. I'd be interested but I'd want to give it a ride first which as we've discussed in pms isn't possible. Thanks for the shout though.
Crop, show me this gazelle if you are intent on selling it :) -

What material are you guys all riding with your touring rigs? A lot of touring frames I see are steel but I'm constantly wondering whether I could bikepack with an extra 10-13kg on a lighter frame, say.. aluminium? Are modern steel frame rigs a lot lighter than my rig with an old school steel frame (10kg in total) that I'm running?
Thanks in advance

Two friends and I are planning on Swansea -> Bangor along the Welsh coast this summer. As it's half term this week (I teach) I took the opportunity to do some touring prep. I cycled out to Box Hill (a first), up Leith hill then camped wild before heading back to south London in the morning. Great fun :)
Bike 10kg
Pack 9kg
Tarp, sleeping bag, roll mat and very little else!Edit: Just adjusted my slightly wonky looking seat, fear not.

Anyone up for a cruisey 15-20miles tonight around South London after midnight? I was thinking of doing a test run tonight at about 1am if anyone's keen. We can go fast or slow, I'm easy.
