I've just finished Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis - it was a good read, certainly kept my attention for a week, but, over nearly 300 pages not much happened. It was all scene setting and character building. Which isn't a bad thing.
I have also go back to Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, which is hailed as one of the best written comedy books ever. I have to say I found it book very dull and not that interesting. I'm only sticking with it because I hate giving up on a book.

Pick up our new (to us) rotovator on Sunday. I've been assured it works well, however the proof is in the rhubarb crumble.
I have most of our crop in raised beds this year, however I'm think of going straight into the ground for potatoes, onions and a few other things. The soil in Lincolnshire is very clay, but I'm assured is full of goodness.

My wife has given us the go ahead to get a puppy. I have always had rescue dogs before. But the local rescue centre dicked us about when we adopted a greyhound (never again) Not the dogs fault I hasten to add, just not the right fit.
I want a norfolk terrier or a whippet, she wants a golden retriever or a Labrador. So need to find a happy medium.

Whenever I read a book I try to bare in mind the period, but even so I'm finding it hard work. It's more that there is a ton of dialogue between characters but very little is actually happening.
