Good call. I'm still worried the thing will die in my compost.

I have discovered some holes around my plot. Assuming these are rats/voles/mice I put down some bait. Bait has gone, Not nibbled gone. Will put more down tonight. I was worried I had pests, now I'm worried these pests are going to bleed out and doe and rot in my compost.

Spent the day at the allotment yesterday, I was there for hours tidying and moving stuff around. The fun part of the day only lasted an hour or so.

Hopefully this will release some of the nutrients from the heavy clay soil.

I'm finally getting towards the end of Catch 22. Only 20 pages to go. I have to say it has been one of the longer books I've read and I cannot wait to finish it. It is terrible.

I'm not so fussed about the flowers themselves but found advise that says they are good companion plants and that they are good at keeping certain pests away.

My allotment is super tidy and it was reasonably productive for a first go, however the couple next door to my plot have the messiest plot and its really productive. I think the additional greenery acts as a barrier and also cannon fodder. So i'm going to be planting some green foliage to keep the bastards out

I've also taken delivery of some horse manure. I've just spread it on a spare patch for now.

Slugs have been my biggest issue this year so will be going full bore from now on. I'll to avoid the pellet is I can but will try nematodes, submerged cups of beer, marigolds, nasturtiums and maybe see if I can interest a hedgehog in a home on my plot.

On a sad note I chopped down the cooking apple tree yesterday evening. It's in the way and the yield has been awful this year as well as it looking pretty ratty.

I'm 6'3. Same problem. They are either really baggy and look skater or they don't exist.

I spent a good hour last night digging up a tree I planted not that long ago, with a view to train it against a fence. Pictures to follow.

After read through some of this thread, I'm now convinced I need a motorbike. Either cafe racer or a bobber. Sadly it will be a 125 to begin with. I'm not adverse to doing some of the work myself either as I have an angle grinder a welder.

Any recommendations would be helpful.

We did raised beds this year, which has been OK but would like to do more in the soil in longer rows.
