I did the Stelvio today from Prad, got up early and started at 05:15 and all the way up not one motorcycle, maybe 15 cars and two trucks, only two road bikes. Since the Umbrail is closed, I went up as far as possible for me and met the Swedish ski racing team on their training camp =) Going later down the horror: traffic jam, old car meetings, new car meetings, Porsche club Munich, so many motorcycles. I really felt sorry for the pour souls on their bikes going up.

Cycled today from Landeck (Tyrol in Austria) to Prad am Stilfser Joch: unfortunately the Umbrail pass is closed until end of September due to a rockslide – now I go up to Stelvio and then down again, no (average/medium length and climbing) other routes back to Prad I guess. Maybe I’ll do another round later tomorrow and do the Stelvio super early.

I checked the usual shops who sell those in Europe, and afterwards asked a German frame builder whose bikes are mostly built around these tyres. Jan Heine (I always say the Ken Rockwell of the bike world) rode one of his bikes with - now also not available - black 55 millimeters knobby tyres, I can’t spell the name of the model.
Great, I don’t know anything about having a tyre business, I guess an amount of money is needed to prototype, and check the minimum order quantity? No kickstarter. Great would be to produced at some European tyre company in contrast to the US niche brands ordering at Panaracer. It would be easier for traveling and communication, same time zone, etc

I have heard that Jan Heine does not make black tyres anymore, at least most of the models will not be available in black color anymore, because the reason for it is that in the US all the people like tan wall tyres. I had a look to get Switchback Hill (650Bx48) in extralight variant & black color, to have in stock at home, but not available =( I know that people make jokes about my tyre choice on the two group rides I make in a year, but who cares, I love fat slickies. Gravelkings, Pari-Motos, WTB Horizons or even black Ultradynamico Cava tyres are the options? Maybe I should make a niche tyre company, with the first tyre being a 650B x 2,2" Grasshopper front wheel style profile, black color and some bold letters on it, which all makes probably no sense, but why not.

Berthoud Cycles with 60mm width – mounting is OK (when having a ton of screws and other small hardware) and a nice fenderline can be more or less easy achieved. The front fender is a little bit higher than the back fender, but I’ll keep it for now like so until I find a smaller l-bracket for the seatstay bridge.

Some things I could install on the bike – the handlebar, saddle, mudguards, frontrack. I will swap the stem to a longer one, the current with 60mm is too short for this absolutely wide handlebar.
The mudguards are more or less OK now, the front is also fixed with the rack, that would not be needed. The small Nitto front rack is mounted with these long black struts (black and silver everywhere), since the dynamo needs some place. Overkill for this small rack, which could carry now a lot I guess. The rack mounted on a Pelago bracket, since it fit better.
Saddle was a great second hand deal & the OG seatpost has some nice marks from the sun.

You could 'reverse' fill the tape (if you didn't do that), like first mask it, paint over the tape with white, let it dry, and then paint with the color – the masking tape is then filled with the white color, and can't fill so much with the other color underneath. We have tried this hack once with white and a greenish color, and it was a little bit better for sure.

Wiesbauer is a sausage company, it is a totally normal Austrian sausage company. Not really bio or anything special, out of the same district in Vienna of the Ottakringer beer, which are known for their all yellow beer cans. And then CS said ,I schiab die Hittn bis ins Ziel‘ > hard to translate, maybe ,I push/tow this cabin to the finish‘ but more like ,I will carry this fucking cabin to the finish‘ when listening to it. Haha everything is very Austrian with him! With Felix Gall at the TdF Austria has some good riders now.

I've overcome my hate for this project and move on with another handlebar, an artisanal very wide bar ('Mothbar') – but it is just gorgeous, haha what a massive bar this is! Of course now the stem 60 mm stem does not fit anymore, I'll try with a 90 or 100mm. It would be better than this ultra-short reach it would be on the Panasonic, on the Surly here I also have a 60mm stem.
Already I am planning to sometimes get new frame, were I could fit all those parts too. Mainly I want to build a bike around this handlebar, the 1" threaded stem, the Paul cantis and the dynamo.

Wow, that's perfect!
With these 26" tyres the volume to overall size ratio is perfect – I remember I wanted to make my custom steel frame a while ago for 26" but got conviced to go with 650B. Now I have these tyres in 27.5 in ultralight and its really like on clouds. Great would be a 27.5 slicky in 2.2 or so.

Looking at the (now) tight cables the owner must have only rotated the bars up to make it ,comfortable’
