DHL really fucked up a delivery recently on a cake I ordered for my dad's memorial service. As it was on a Saturday I requested a Friday delivery to my mum's house with the bakery, who duly made the cake and gave it to the courier on Thursday. Friday comes around and I check the tracking only to see 'unexpected delay, we will deliver next working day'. I was already pretty annoyed that it was gonna be missing from the spread but we had loads of cakes anyway, so I thought at least maybe we could all get a slice before going home Monday.
Monday there's still no sign of it and we have to leave, so I make a note to complain to someone when I get back. My mum messaged me the next day to say they'd turned up, left the box in the rain outside the door and left when she was out shopping, so the cake was totally ruined anyway. It had an instruction on the label to leave it with her neighbour if she wasn't in but that didn't happen. Luckily the bakery was very honest and upset about the whole thing so promptly refunded me when I sent pictures of how my mum found it. -
I think those Wilfa grinders' buttons/timers are generally a bit fucked cos mine does similar things - sometimes it will stop after a few seconds of grinding and I have to press it again, and sometimes it'll go on for longer than I expect so I have to press it to stop.
Mine also doesn't really adjust grind sizes much at all; I couldn't be bothered to get it replaced because I only ever make pour over at home and the size it happens to produce is good for that, but it's occasionally annoying if I want to grind for cafetiere so I can take a supply with me to visit my mum. I also can't 100% rule out that my wife didn't break it as she took it upon herself to open the package and put it together when it originally got delivered and I was at the office. She's not a klutz or anything but I would've preferred to do it myself. -
Yeah the textures are pretty rough on Switch but I don't have a PC anyway, plus I have the flu and it's nice to have something engaging to play in bed (although the gunfights are sometimes a bit too noisy if my headache's particularly bad). The load times are quite a pain, but I did complete Disco Elysium pre-patch on Switch which had the worst load times I've ever experienced so I have a high tolerance for them if the game is compelling.

I think Outer Worlds got some mixed reviews but I'm playing on the Switch and enjoying it after getting a hankering for a Fallout style game. It's obviously not a AAA game so there are some niggles like the environment isn't as navigable as I'd like sometimes, but the script is good and they seem to have hired some decent voice talent. Firefly is pretty tainted for me thanks to Joss Whedon's now known arsehole behaviour but this gives me a similar space Western vibe.

Stayed in a cottage in Devon for a few days with family last week. I smashed my head so many times - there was one entire corridor where I had to stoop along the whole length, plus the bathroom was super low so I couldn't stand up to shower and had to sit in the bath. The door to the bedroom my wife and I had was absolutely ridiculous and was at least 20 cm lower than the top of my head. I had a really stiff neck by the end and couldn't decide whether to blame the mattress, the constant knocks to the head or the fact I was walking around hunched over all the time.

Yeah I got a carton a while ago out of curiosity. I should say that I don't do espresso so I didn't try steaming it, but it split in absolutely every coffee or tea I tried and made them undrinkable. Didn't taste too bad to me on cereal, but was unsurprisingly earthy so my wife poured it down the sink after she got sick of me trying to use it up because she found it disgusting.

At least you have a good excuse to wrap one of those dental pain freezer packs around your head?
Can't remember what the dentist said about cold liquids when I had mine out, but they seemed more against me drinking hot stuff or using a straw tbh. I was drinking iced coffee for a few days, or simply letting a cup of coffee go cold, but you almost certainly will spill whatever you try to drink all down yourself because your jaw gets so stiff. Buy in plenty of high protein yoghurt now for something cold that doesn't require chewing? -
Thank god I took this week off, although I had wanted to do more stuff for myself so it's pretty annoying; just going to spend today and tomorrow with the blackout curtains closed while the sun's up. I normally work at an old NHS building which is Grade II listed so obviously no attempt at installing air con has ever been made, and once the sun hits the west side of it the office gets shimmeringly hot (having said that I think I've only worked in one NHS job that bought an air conditioner, and that was a monolithic thing that took up tons of floor space and sounded like a lawn mower).

I could struggle on and saving a bit more is tempting, but the battery on this phone is so crap now that I can't get anywhere near a full day out of it so if I go anywhere I have to think about where I'll charge it. All I've done today is watched about 20 minutes of YouTube in bed, listened to a podcast for 30 minutes and a bit of normal browsing and it's at 33% at lunchtime. I know the 12 Mini isn't exactly known for great battery life but surely it's not as bad as that.

Feel like I've been cursed trying to buy an 11 Pro! Went to get the one I first mentioned and it sold out as it was in my basket. Then found a similar price from Envirofone and went to get that only for my card to get flagged for suspicious activity and frozen (then when I got it sorted they refused to deal with me even after I phoned them and said they'd marked my account as suspicious for a few days). Then as I was getting ready for bed I saw one elsewhere, but it turned out their sale ended the next day and it went back up in price.
Think I'll just either get a normal 11 and spend the difference on a brand new battery, or get a 12 Mini. -
Cheers all, I think I was just second guessing it thinking I was talking myself into upgrades I don't actually need again, but tbh I value a nice display alone and the extra 128gb is a good bonus. Just wish the Pro colours weren't so conservative and muted and that I could have one in purple like the base 11! Guess I'll buy a lairy case to make up for it.

Gonna switch to iPhone for a change as I've never had one and my current phone is from 2017, has a shot battery and annoying screen burn-in - as long as I have a decent camera and probably more than 64gb of space I'm happy so I'm ok getting an older model refurbished. I'd wanted to spend around £300 or less but I didn't reckon with how much pricier they are compared to Androids of the same vintage so I'm looking at:
11, 128gb, £310
11 Pro, 256gb, £370Extra £60 worth it for the Pro third camera, nicer screen and double the storage space? Bit more than I wanted to spend tbh, have spent so long dithering I can't tell if that's a bargain I'm silly to pass up or I should just stick to a budget and be happy with what I can get at that range.

Used to work with someone in a hospital who couldn't find her card after work one day and called the bank to report it; they told her they'd freeze it but it had just been used in a Wetherspoons 10 minutes away. She ran down there and found her colleague with the card treating herself and a mate to post-work drinks. Just staggeringly dumb behaviour to use it somewhere where you're going to be sitting around for a while.

Are the non-Plus/Ultra Samsung Galaxy S phones possibly the nearest thing to a decent 'compact' Android now? Looking like maybe I'd have to go iPhone if I wanted smaller, but the prices sting a bit compared to e.g. a refurbished S20 (other than an SE and I don't think I can go back to a screen quite that small). I do like watching stuff on my phone, but I've started getting hand/thumb pain that seems to be aggravated when stretching to use a big heavy phone (plus my old Note regularly drags itself out of my pocket if I crouch down which has always been annoying).

The £5 Costa Rican bag James Gourmet Coffee are selling right now is really decent for the price! Feels very much like a 'coffee that tastes like coffee' in a good way; I like my anaerobic naturals and bright acidic washed Kenyans but it's nice to get a very balanced uncomplicated cup for a change.
