That mini roundabout where Wightman Road joins Endymion Road is frequently a nightmare because people just ignore it as a roundabout all the time and don't care about anyone else having priority; have been cruising down there towards Green Lanes and almost smacked into people coming off Wightman Road because they don't care you're coming from the right. Endymion Road has become generally unpleasant because there are always way more HGVs tearing up and down there than you'd expect; my wife and I were actually looking at flats there years ago and although the buildings are super nice and you're right on the park we declined because the road was so much noisier than we expected.

Is Velorution no good? Their site has tons of Genesis bikes for sale and I was thinking of using them for my C2W scheme since they take Halfords vouchers, but when I called them up to see about a test ride they had no stock except one medium CdF at Marylebone (wasn't actually looking for a CdF and wanted the Essex Road store since it's closer) which then turned out had been sold anyway. Nice enough guy on the phone though.

Utter ballbag in a Vauxhall estate tried to undertake me (may actually have mounted the pavement) turning left at some lights last night; I refused to let him through and gave him the finger when he honked at me so he decided he needed to *over*take me at the right turn I signalled for with about 20cm room to spare. Easily caught up with him on Tollington Park and gave the old universal wrist signal as I filtered past and then almost collided with an old guy RLJing very slowly from the left.

Anyone happen to have seen a shop in north London stocking a Smithfield so I can take it for a test ride and figure out the sizing? Gonna go and try out a Day One at the weekend but my local never seems to have much other than that and the CdF. Right now most of my head is saying to just get a Day One and the rest is whispering about how pretty the Flyer looks this year.

I remember a few years ago I was going down Wood Street on an icy night (yes I had lights on) and saw a car waiting to turn right across me. I locked eyes with him and was staring at him for a good five seconds as I approached and he STILL pulled in front of me with no time to spare so I went straight into the side of him, then he swiftly drove off as I picked myself up. I remember his jowly face but seems he just saw a featureless blob.

Anyone tried the Aldi £10 neoprene gloves? I actually have a pair of B'Twin neoprene ones that I got a few years ago and really like but they are a little ragged now and wanted a backup pair in case these rip or something (Decathlon stopped making them). Neoprene is good for me right up until proper winter - so glad I gave them a try, although the one drawback is if I need to stop and check my phone I have to peel them back and then it takes ages for my hand to warm up again.

Re: turning left - last time I was in Copenhagen I came up on a junction and out of habit just slowed waiting for a gap to turn across it. Everyone went fucking mental and I was told you're supposed to do a hook turn and wait in front of the traffic to your right and go with that. I swear I've seen signs advising that on some junctions in Amsterdam too. Seems way more dangerous to me in that you'll potentially get flattened by traffic turning right.

A couple decided they needed to undertake me when I slowed down with the traffic for a pedestrian crossing, then immediately got abreast of each other, slowed down and started chatting.
Then at the junction on Stroud Green Road they saw a car that had idiotically stopped in the middle of the crossing and decided they HAD to be in front so were just sitting in the path of traffic. It's one thing to move a bit ahead of the ASL if a car's barged into the box but if you're actually in danger of being crushed by a bus you've probably gone too far. -
Been lurking on here for a bit passively soaking up advice as I need a new low maintenance commuter and general tough runabout through my work's cycle scheme. I saw Cycle Surgery have the SS Nicasio for £500 - anyone have any experience with them? Or if you've tried the 2x8 version or rather regal-looking hub gear type with the swept back bars how were they?
I was actually leaning towards a Day One since it's already got guards fitted and has a good rep here and elsewhere but:
a) saving £200 (plus the cost of guards) would not be unpleasant for an impoverished NHS worker like me, and:
b) the Nicasio looks subjectively to me like it might be less attractive to thieves.I actually currently ride an old dinged up Marin hybrid; it gets me around fine but is definitely not a smooth ride in any way so I don't have any particular brand loyalty at play.
LBC has never been tolerable. I insisted a taxi driver turn it off the other day and even the Andrew Lloyd-Webber CD he for some reason switched to was like Sudocrem for my ears.
