I guess its the steel flexes more than the alu, which after repeated stressing cracks and fails.
Obviously combined with my awesome power....or more realistically my fat ass & London's roads being as smooth as the surface of the moon. And that bike has done 200 miles of London's roads this week so has had a hard week.
Bike has 28c tyres too so its not like I'm loosening my fillings riding around on 23c's
And Columbus SL is the flexiest steel of my bikes, so I guess its stressing the alu cages more than my other bikes. As I said I've broken a few alu cages on this frame, have broken another alu cage on a Columbus SLX frame, but have never broken an alu cage on any of my stiffer Max frames.

My mum makes some baller jam from fruit she grows in her garden, but this black current jam is the most intense jam I've ever had in my life, has me gurning like I've double dropped, and along with a morning espresso is like injecting amphetimines....I guess.
Shit should straight up be illegal and on the WADA list. -
I have had those Elite Cuissi ones but don't rate them as found them too flexible, and had bottles bounce out of them just riding on the road.
Also annoyingly they didn't even fit their own bottles properly, I had an Elite flask thing that would fly out of those cages at the mere sight of a pebble.
Up for any other steel cage suggestions with better bottle retention ability tho if anyone has recommendations.
Mostly though I should just stick to riding my Max bikes, I don't have that issue with them :)

I've got 28's on my 585^ but that's as big as will fit.
In my experience the older GP4000's blew up bigger than the current GP5000's, and though I've not got a 481 I'm sure you'd fit 25c GP5000 no problem if your GP4000's fit, you might even manage a 28c GP5000 in there, but I'd wait for confirmation from a 481 owner.

Noodly steel bike + London's shit roads = kills alu bottle cage, again. Alu fatigue in action.
I've snapped a few alu bottle cages on this noodly Columbus SL frame before, but never managed to snap 2 rails at the same place at the same time, like Uri Geller had been fucking around with it.
It didn't even have a bottle in at the time. -
Great, thanks a lot, and for the link too.
I've only got experience of Campag doubles so wasn't sure whats what with triples, and as the compact cranks came out not too long after it seems to have mostly killed off the triples and as a result there doesn't seem much of it about.
I made the fatal mistake of getting dazzled by the shiny and bought a NOS Campag triple crank, only then to discover the eye watering costs of the rest of the bits I needed to get it working. Even for Campagnolo the patron saint of money pits, that was more costly than expected.
If I'd seen this a month or two ago I would probably have bought this, too late for that now sadly as have gone a different direction.
Yours is a lot of bike for the money so sure it will go to a good home, and Graham will be pleased its wheels keep on turning.

Lovely bike, GLWS, and that Record triple stuff is hella spendy these days so seems a very good deal.
Can I ask what front mech you have for running a triple? Is it a dedicated triple one or is there enough throw on a regular double FD to work? And is it more finicky to set up a triple than a double or was it as easy to set up?

Previously this bike had a aheadset and a generic carbon fork so forgettable it wouldn't be invited to dinner if it was the last fork on earth.
As I had the original fork and think a quill looks loads better anyway I've fitted those. Columbus SL, Gilco main tubes, fast back seat stays, the seat stays are like Popeye's forearms and bulge noticeably in the middle before narrowing at each end, and cool middle finger lugs, or spearpoint lugs as they are more commonly known :).
10 speed Campag, semi compact 52/36, Zonda's that were hand me downs from my Look, new 3t bars and stem, 28c tyres, fat 3mm bar tape and bike is a super comfortable mile muncher.
And I couldn't resist borrowing the Zipp's from my Look to see what it looks like with some deeper rims, pretty tasty as it happens.

This weekend I have mostly been tinkering with Eddy's.
Team Panasonic with new cassette, chain, 28c tyres, Swiss Stop brake pads, brake and gear cables and bar tape. The sparkly blue and all that chrome looking good in the afternoon sun.
And for the Domo Farm Frites MX Leader, the wheels I've taken from another of my bikes, as they look better with this. Campag Chorus hubs and Ambrosio Focus rims, with new 28c tyres. Also new ultra-torque Chorus crank, Chorus shifters, chain, cassette, gear and brake cables, new Cinelli XA stem and 3t Competizione handlebars, and have changed the saddle and bar tape from yellow in its previous incarnation, to black, so new saddle and tape to finish.

@PhilDAS have you built the Max fork from the previous page yet?
I'm getting some straight bladed ones made at the moment, not going to look as nice as yours with that Samson crown, and as mine is still a month or so away I wondered if you've got any pics of yours, or any tales of the build progress?
Are you having straight blades or are you going to try and bend those Max tubes for a raked fork? How easy/hard is that?

I'm trying and failing to find some tape that color matches this 3T gunmetal bar and stem.
I thought with all the ti bikes this would be easy and there's be loads of options, but I keep finding the greys are lighter in real life than displayed in pics on the web, and I've not found anything I'm really happy with.
I'd prefer it to have a kind of sheen/shine like the stem, and here's what I've got so far:
(my work bike now has enough tape to last the rest of the decade with the fails).
From left to right, with the left being the current favorite, but would prefer it if it was a little darker is Velox Guidoline. The next one from the left is Fizik which also has a nice shine, but again is just too light a color, and the others, Lizard Skins, Deda and Condor are definite no-no's.
Anyone got any other suggestions? I get grey has not got the pazazz to get the marketing department excited, so let me know if there's any jazzier search terms I should be using like Shinyium or whatever for more results.
