Halfway house between 38mm carbons and Archtype
https://www.dtswiss.com/Components/Rims-Road/RR-511-dbI built a pair with the rim braked version which are 40g heavier, onto Ridea hubs (road front and high flange fixed rear) with 20f/24r revolutions. First build in 20 years and they went together very easily, except for watching out for the revolutions winding up. First ride out had a pheasant fly into the front wheel and ended up decapitating it 😂 local roads are quite ropey with plenty of potholes and patch repairs. They haven't needed any work since building.
1033g front with rimstrip, 23mm GP 4000 and Schwalbe innertube (Not including skewer)
1278g rear as above, with 16t cog and included lockring and allen bolts ready to ride -
@ewanmac and @The_Seldom_Killer.
If you often overtighten your laces, try tying them with your foot dorsiflexed (flexed upwards) as that position will probably be largest size around your foot. That way they should never be a point where the trainer pinches your foot whilst running...
Compare it to tying the laces with your foot in plantar flexion and you will probably notice them get very tight when you dorsiflex.Loop/lock lacing the top of your trainers gives an extra couple of passes of lace right at the top, which then doesn't stretch so much under load. So you dont need to tie them quite so tight to prevent the trainer slipping on your heel.

Theres so much going on within feet and hands.
Heres a few pics of a foot in various states of undress..
The wide band of the Cruciate Crural ligament could be the "raised bone" your feeling. This holds the tendons inplace over the top of the foot/ankle joint.Ligaments/connective tisue are shown in white
Nerves are thin yellow lines
Veins are thin blue lines
Arteries are thin red linesHopefully those are a help in pinpointing what you've brused or aggravated

An interesting torchlit run round some of the twisting tracks and trails that criss cross one of our local forests.
Had a good idea where I was but checked the compass to confirm how far round the track I was. But it was pointing the opposite direction to what I expected. Enabling the navigation screen on my watch confirmed my original thoughts that I wasn't lost or had forgotten how to read it. Just the compass has become south seeking, and that was definitely confirmed when back home. With it sat next to my sighting compass and needles pointing opposite directions.

Colds suck 😢 makes the same effort feel so much more demanding. I ran the Orkney marathon in a similar time to a few comparable runs . Strava suffer score is normally 380-400 but a streaming cold saw my HR around 10bpm higher than usual and suffer score blown away at 607 and feeling shit for about 10 days after.
All the best to yourself and @Spares look after yourselves and keep moving 😁

Being as you've had the bottle to enter, I doubt it will be anywhere near the 10k price comparison 😀
I'll be watching Alan Cormack, who's one of the Scottish ultra dafties. I finished my second half marathon at the same time as him and we were both entered into a marathon, which was my first one. Ran the whole way with him and thats probably the reason I gave ultras a bash.
Who from the LFGSS are we watching on the trackers?

On the Barkley front, this is a good read.
http://batgirldaily.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/they-say-gate-is-yellow.htmlWith just a few finishers at best each year, it's guaranteed to be a daunting day out... now think about trying it without the luxury of sight!

@rhb top effort with the run and great write up. In that twisted dafty sense, it sounds like a fun evening out.
A thought on foggy cross country nav towards a gate in a long fence ( or a bridge over a stream). "Aiming Off" where you deliberately want to miss the gate works quite well. If you aim to be 100m left (or right) of the objective, you know with a good degree of certainty that hitting the fence and turning right will get you there... saves a bit of time micro navigating or getting to the fence and wondering which way to go

I think Strava is the best tracking platform I've used. I seldom look at my Garmin connect as I've got it set up to sync to Strava. The strava app give plenty of info to keep track of your progress (and also your friends) whilst you can also log on to the website for a lot more stuff.
Mapmyrun, Endomondo and Sportstracker are okay but for me, long since deleted.

Good running and brilliant medal there @rhb
DTD is on my want to do list. But is a long way south of the Scottish border, which is the limit for races I can get away with entering before Mrs P gets grumpy. We have snow and wet, windy horribleness forecast for this coming saturdays Glen Ogle 33 ultra. Should be a fun way to finish the ultra season 😨☺
Then the weekend after its Nairn XC which has a varied course and 100% chance of getting wet

Ive just seen that Saucony have updated the Xodus, so spent the afternoon looking for a pair of the old style without success. If anyone knows of a shop with Xodus 6 GTX (yellow uppers) in size UK 9.5 please could you let me know.
Why do they keep doing that 😠😢 it took ages and lots of blisters to find them.

XC and trails are definitely the best and it sounds like you paced it well :)
You ran past the big red bin twice then chanced your luck with a very tight line. Sorry it hurt but short of putting a dayglo vest on it, I cant think how better to tape the corner. Sure it could be post n taped into a gradual bend instead of a corner, but where is the fun in that when it turns into a track.
I was contemplating those two options for the fixie, but bottled carbon as we have plenty of long hills and I still have bandy runners legs, so brake quite a lot without the luxury of a freewheel.
I was also unsure of front fork clearance for the 23mm wide Archtype so went slightly safer. I also fancied being able to use the front wheel on the tt bike for wind days, and the deeper U profile of the 511 seemed to fit the bill for a few grams extra. So decision made.
