I've been wearing barefoot shoes (yea, Vivos) for two years now. Haven't found any cycling shoes which are particularly comfy but I haven't really tried tbh; my cycling has fallen off a cliff since having a kid so spending £150+ on a pair of wide Bonts or Lakes seems ridiculous. Fizik apparently do wide fit shoes now. Not sure any of them are women-specific (I'd question why you need women-specific shoes tbh) though...

Oh no, I missed this. Where did you end up going in the end?
As of June 2024 the best places are:
- PO41, Yarmouth
- Lost Mill or Comicoffee, Cowes
- Artisan Coffee, East Cowes
- Lagom or Hotbox Bakery, Bembridge
- Peddlers, Newchurch
- Ventnor Exchange, Ventnor (or if it's a Saturday you may be lucky with Ingrams Yard market, but you'll have to descend into Ventnor to get refreshments there and it's a long way back up so would never be my first choice)
- M+J's cafe, or the Post Office, Niton (the latter does pizza and from what I've heard it's amazing)
- The Bike Box at Afton Down just before Freshwater Bay, one of the best places to get coffee from on the whole island
- Beer bus, Wightwood Pizza in Freshwater Bay
- Piano Cafe in Freshwater Bay
--
There are other nice places not on the route but worth a look if you are here:- Chessell Pottery Cafe
- Cook + Baker, Godshill
- The Coffee Bubble, Sandown
- PO41, Yarmouth

should've been a warranty claim to begin with?
Probably. Maybe it wasn't always this way, I can't remember. Certainly wasn't an issue until the first time it needed bleeding which happened to be when I was touring through rural Wales with no bike shop in sight. Anyway. No bike shop I've ever taken it to (and it's been to a fuckload) ever suggested it may have been a warranty claim - which in hindsight I guess is a bit annoying (especially given I was given a new di2 battery under warranty in 2021). Anyway. Looks like I'll be spending £200+ on a flipping new shifter :'/

Shifter question...
My right hand Ultegra r8070 shifter is probably dead, according to my LBS. Won't bleed. I suddenly lost braking power on both brakes a couple of weeks ago. Right hand brake has always been a bit dodgy, a little bit of travel in the lever before anything happens but it's something I am used to and most of the time doesn't affect the braking. About once a year or every two years I experience total brake loss in that brake and normally a bleed solves it but this time it doesn't want to know. My LBS are planning to strip the shifter to investigate but the mechanic says this is a crappy job he doesn't really want to do. I'm happy to pay for it. Anyway...
In the event this shifter is fucked, what are my options for other repair or replacement? I can't find a right hand r8070 shifter available anywhere. Do I really have to buy a set? Even second hand they are really spendy aren't they. Honestly I would rather the frameset fail than a shifter. Bike was bought in 2019 so well out of warranty.
It would be fucking weird but what about one Ultegra and one GRX shifter?

Okay my link to those tyres was clearly a mistake from Sigma but how about some bartape for £1.99? No idea why a scooter shop is selling it...
Well reviewed here: https://road.cc/content/review/247360-joystick-analog-bar-tape

Hello bartape nerds,
My Kinesis x Jo Burt (black/pink) needs replacing. It's done well for 4 years. I am a fan of patterned (/fun...?) tape, though most patterned tape is absolutely hideous innit. Kinda tempted by this https://deanforestcyclesshop.co.uk/pdw-yo-wraps-donuts-137-p.asp but cotton seems... nah?
Like the Burgh bartape I've seen but it's spendy + not in stock anywhere + I've seen some issues with removal in this thread.
The bike, for reference, is grey/silver with red decals...
What shall I get? My LBS stocks the Kinesis stuff currently on there but I'm thinking of changing it up.

Nah it'll be fine, there's just a very stark difference between the east where all the seaside resorts are, and the west which is where I live and the roads are always very quiet.
A roads will probably be busy but I'd always avoid those. Locals will sometimes use small country lanes but they are twisty AF and horrible to drive because they're constantly up and down with barely any decent sight lines. Absolutely wonderful on a bike though. You'll be grand!
Make sure you do the entire Military Road including the descent from Blackgang.
Maybe one for the helmets thread, but it's a bargain so here too.
Bell have heavily reduced some of their helmets, including this one (£18.99 down from £75, with MIPS ain't bad): https://bellbikehelmets.co.uk/products/bell-avenue-mips-road-helmet which just arrived for me. Nicer than the Carnac thing it's replacing.
Some other bargains if you browse their site too.
