That is remarkable. My gf had one single puncture on GP 4S due to a heavily overloaded rear rack (groceries) and low tire pressure on a bumpy path. Other than that ive had zero problems with them and run them on several bikes for many thousand kms all year round on road, gravel and some trails. they shouldn't have survived some of this, but they did.
wet grip is the best out of any road tires i've had.
hm, maybe i've been lucky or there are bad batches of them? -

depends on what you want to do:
road riding mainly? there's the RSV Heidelberg: https://rsv-heidelberg.de/
for mountainbiking there are several weekly meetups that i can recommend, if you like trail riding and more difficult terrain.
for more xc-ish mountainbiking i don't know of any dedicated club or group.
for gravel riding there are several strava groups etc. or i can give you some tips for routes.
until now i did the gravel riding around here mostly with friends or alone, no club or such for that.
(there's the flare bike festival though once a year and the votec gravel fondo) -

yes, mostly when fresh leaves and foliage on the ground get rained on the first few times in atumn. then a lot of it ends up in the guards, if you dont have them set up so that the distance to the tire starts at its minimum and increases.
but thats like 2 weeks a year, otherwise its fine: either more wet, so that everythings flushed through, or so dry that nothing gets sucked in.
mud and studded tires are a different story though... they need lots of clearance imo.
but ymmv -

I'm happily riding a Holdsworth Stelvio atm, but theres not much room for rubber.
So, If anyone has a cheap-ish (up to ~400€) frame or frameset with the following specs and is willing to post it to Germany, please PM me :)I'm looking for
- steel
- dropbar geo
- QR 100mm / 135mm (getting rare now...) :/
- disc brake compatible
- Size XL or 60-62cm (Reach 400-420) --> I'm 1,94m tall with a 94 inseam. Would run wide drop bars and 90-110mm stem on that with around one cm saddle setback.
- room for 40mm tyres + guards or 45 without guards (more is welcome obvs).
- mounts for guards, rack etc.
also (but no must) - 27,2 seatpost
- 28,6 or 30mm band-on diameter for front derailleur
- all external cables
- maaaaybe swappable rear mech hanger? thats a long shot now, though :D
so basically a Genesis CdF, Surly Straggler, Sonder Santiago, Vitus/Verenti Substance, ... something along those lines :) to build a dynamo'd rack-n guards bike.
Thanks in advance :-) Anything i missed or any questions, just ask!

I seem to have a bit of a problem with my frame bag (Topeak Midloader Size Large) bulging out. When I put more in it than just a tool and tube it bulges and my legs contact it with every pedal stroke which does annoy me after a few kms. So, apart from using bags in different places, what could be done about this?
I would like to avoid sewing through the fabric as its water-repellent. For cross-stabilisation fabric therefore it seems that i can only add iron-on things on the inside.
Or did anyone have such experiences and has found ways to resolve the frame bag bulging out? :) Thanks in advance -
Hey all,
I'm searching for some forks for my steel cross/gravelbike. Budget is around 100€ - 150€.
Currently the bike has a steel fork with 395mm (axle to crown) and 47mm rake.
It's got 40mm of clearance, QR dropouts and IS disc tabs. What I'm searching for is something similiar but with more tire clearance :) Ideally 42 or 45mm.
A-C can vary between 395 and 400mm, rake could also be 45 or 50mm.
So e.g. a Straggler fork, Light Blue Darwin, All City, Kona P2 or Rove fork etc.Color isnt too important, in doubt I'd just respray it myself. As long as theres no bad rust.
Maybe someones got some spare forks :)
Thanks in advance -

Can we have some more info on your ... leafblower thing? (the red specialized) -

Maybe moving the fender behind the fork crown gives you enough room for the tire? because not only the bracket, but also the rivets would then not be in the way anymore. But with the brake you've got you would need a different recessed nut, such as the problem solvers brake nut (still cheaper than new guards though?)

In the +-500g range i can vouch for DT R500s, very impressed with mine so far.
They dont have any inserts in the eyelets though unlike the true trekking and cargo options.
But theyve survived some heavy loads and forest bashing. Built them with a Shimano Hub Dyno front (huge 70mm flange diameter + deep rim = very stable) and a rear XT Hub with butted spokes (2.0 / 1,6). As a result i've got a respectable 1,95kg wheelset, which i think is allright for a 150€-wheelset with a dynamo. (could be as low as 1600 without the hub dynamo with e.g. a novatec front hub instead). -

there i found some more sugesstions:
- DT 240 SSP hub, then ream the axle and fit a 142 conversion kit
- profile BMX hubs are apparently available in 142mm
- Hadley SSP hub
- you can also allegedly convert the stans notubes rear ssp hub to 142 --> wait, edit: you can, theres a pic in the thread :)
- DT 240 SSP hub, then ream the axle and fit a 142 conversion kit

For SSP you could use this: https://www.cnc-bike.de/product_info.php?products_id=17679
with axle spacers and a 142x12 axle. would necessitate a boostinator adapter for the disc though... so a bodge in the end. -

Hi, I'm currently searching for a good saddle pack, preferably around 10 -12 liters.
As i was binging myself through some GCN etc. videos, I noticed in many of them that the bags were swaying around a lot. Is that due to quick and uneven packing and not compressing enough? or do these things all wobble around outside the commercial vids? :DSo: are there any decent value ones that you can recommend? I'd like to use an of-the-shelf model for some time before being sure what to order as a custom longterm bag from cordel etc.
Now you started a thread about going touring with your cat... and there are no cat pics? outrageous! :D
