Almeida lost time at the start which then made Remco the sole leader. If that didn't happen then Almeida wouldn't have had to have waited loosing Masnada wouldn't have helped either.

No footage has been shown but the helicopter was at the same place as the crash but maybe missed everyone come down. That part had a strong tailwind combined with the start of the race the speed must have been super high.
Ganna seems to enjoy this bodyguard role after doing such a similar (more mentally it seemed at the last giro with Tao before the final time trial) but also loves ripping the race apart like yesterdays stage. I guess Ineos giving him the freedom for the Olympics only helps this more so.
