Cheers all for the suggestions. Not rushing so going to think on those ideas for a bit.
I’m pretty sure the vent was latterly bodged into place to compensate for the awful cooker extractor that had been partially venting into the roof cavity. Fits with the other bodges we’ve inherited - it’s a long list.

Slowly making progress on our kitchen and the next job is to fill this vent before decorating. No cavity, looks like brick/blocks inside and bath stone on the outside. 90’s extension to a listed building. Anything wrong with this plan?...
For the inside wall... Fill the inside with a layer of cement, leave a centimetre from the wall surface. Once dry, cover with filler and sand back. Was going to leave empty space between front and back wall.
Outside... leave until spring when we might get experts in to clean the front of the house. Get them to deal with it so the colour matches the rest of the building. -

Yeah, that’s where we’re leaning. Still struggling to find one slim enough to safely sit above the hob and still vent out the top.
Going to email a drawing to these folk today see what they think:
https://www.franke.com/gb/en/ks/products/cooker-hood/maris-2.0/330-0589-687_detail.htmlIt’s between this and lampshades as the longest running house decision.

Cooker hood hive mind advice... about to tear the kitchen out and need a new one to go over a 90cm Ilve range. There’s 1m between the top of the worktop and the start of the pitched roof so the space is pretty tight. I can’t stand cooker hoods that stick out too far at eye level - I’m clumsy and forever head butting them. What would be a neat and compact solution?

Been in Bath just over a month now and this week had a hand delivered letter from the council noting our front hedge isn’t neat enough. He was quite apologetic, it’s not that bad.
Have a good look through the local planning website at what has and hasn’t been allowed. Helped us understand what we could realistically expect to do and make a decision with that in mind.

My 8050 rear derailleur got very upset during its last ride and wouldn't shift out of 34/28 coming over the top of a hill full gas. Motor started making a grinding noise, like nothing inside was engaging properly. Seems like it's now permanently in crash recovery mode - After resetting at the junction and pressing the shifter it makes the tic-tic-tic noise like it's jammed. Motor/cage remain disconnected and I can move by hand. Everything works with a 6870 derailleur swapped in.
Plugging the charger in to the junction and running e-tube recognises the derailleur.
Any top tips before I find a shop with the proper diagnostics box thing or consider it toasted?

We found direct communication with the seller really handy to push things forwards. We went to meet them again after the offer was accepted so we could agree a basic timeline and have a candid chat on where we each were with our own paperwork/plans.
Gave each other regular updates so could kick the professionals into sense/action when needed.
If we sent something to our solicitor we'd let the seller know so they could chase their solicitor to act etc. Also helped when the solicitors started feuding over an imaginary well. -
This is great, thanks for putting together.
Making the room not canary yellow and presentable for now really. It'll be my girlfriends office and we'll invest some more on it when we've recovered from moving and sorted the more important rooms. We're DIY'ing the kitchen from the end of next week so that'll be the killer for a while.

Virgin update - I emailed the CEO and got a call back from the CEO team -
The cable to the area is knackered.
They don't know if or when they'll be able to fix it.
So, internet isn't actually available in the area?
No.
Surely during the many times I called someone would have seen this on your database, especially when I called a month ago triple checking Virgin could supply internet to the property.
No, this is not on any database 'they' can see.
Right.
So someone will call with me with an update?
No. Keep looking out the window. If we can get a permit you might see someone trying to fix it in the street over the coming weeks.
Right. -

That's great, thanks for the link. Looks like weekend of procrastinating ahead.
Also, the £1K+ door knocker!
