LFGSS and Microcosm shutting down 16th March 2025 (the day before the Online Safety Act is enforced)
To me, the contributions from @RobertInventor are quite helpful in demonstrating how regulators tend to operate, and are in line with my experience of regulators in other sectors.
Otoh, I don't think this view point changes the issue at hand.

Obscure q. This is a chistmas present. I ordered the wifi version of this speaker which is considerably more expensive than the Bluetooth only version. Bought from amazon via a reseller. This is what I got. It doesn't say wifi anywhere. I can't tell if it's the right product and obviously don't want to open it.

Quite interested to hear people's roast turkey recipes. Having a look at the one @Tenderloin linked above.
I won't be doing a wet brine though; done that quite a few times and yeah it works but it's a faff and I'm not sure the end product is much better than you can achieve with conventional methods.

i used to work in this specific area and there isn't enough in the photos to be 90% certain that the tree is a problem.
it's certainly possible that there may be some superficial root damage to the structure - but is the structure just a few breeze blocks and some cement over hardcore? in which case it's going to fall down eventually in any case.
not wanting to start an argument, just that there are a number of things to consider and some bloke rocking up saying "your tree is damaging my x" doesn't mean anything - they all say that as an opening gambit as it's relatively easy just to get rid of the tree, then they don't have clear out their gutters, wash their car or whatever the f*ck happens to be annoying them at that moment in time.

thank you guitar people - really helpful suggestions.
@RonAsheton - no he doesn't really need another guitar and in fact he hasn't even asked for one. he's generally anti-consumption so avoids needlessly accumulating or replacing things (unlike me). the ones you linked look lovely.
i think that he might enjoy a different guitar though, and it would bring another element to his playing and gigs. he / his band plays indie influenced slightly folky rock. also does acoustic stuff.

hello again guitar nerds.
my son still plays, he's in a band and they are semi good. i get a lot of vicarious happiness from his musicianship, so i thought maybe when he comes home i'd see if he wants to go into town and buy another guitar.
he has a basic electric guitar (Squier Jazzmaster) and a not bad acoustic guitar, so i was thinking maybe a hollow body electric or an electro-acoustic.
what would be a good shop in london to go to where he could try a few out, and ideally not be a high pressure sales type situation?

@skrtluv - endeavours to exceed market returns are gambles; some will benefit, on aggregate all participants will get market returns less costs.
Attempting to identify gambling gurus to improve your chances of being on the upside is just another overhead.

to me, this is the essence of the issue.
having a number of people with a moderate degree of motivation to help out is not the same as having one or two people with a really big degree of motivation to actually make the whole thing happen.
whilst the collective efforts of people here are heartening, it's hard to see where the person with the big enough motivation to take on the wherewithal of the whole gig is going to come from.
not wanting to be pessimistic and far less to minimise everyone's efforts and intentions, it's just how i see it.
