I'm talking about wind conditions rather than temperature... using mywindsock.com along the entire route.
I have had considerable assistance from Ben Norbury (himself an accomplished long distance TTer) who runs that most excellent website. Unfortunately he doesn't actually control the wind, which would be even more helpful.

As @skinny says above...
Very roughly Gethin's day was a z-value of +1.8, which you would expect to turn up every 25/30 days. Which shows why this is a silly game to get into!
One whole z-value is about 1hr45 difference over the End to End route

I will be riding track league tomorrow night, then turbo over the weekend and watching #1 child play football.
High pressure over these isles, innit.
To be fair to Ian, he may only have a short window of opportunity so it could be that his hand has been forced somewhat. Reading his messages, I think he's itching to go.

It isn't a two week window, I can wait as long as I like... although I am keeping a support crew waiting.
Not sure why Ian is keeping his route private, I wanted people to know about it so they can come out and cheer and feel part of the event. Really looking forward to it now.
Please follow @endtoend2018 on Twitter if you're interested in route, schedule, updates etc etc

Agreed - although i'm sure coverage in Cycling was the huge majority of that. Problem is - in print - Cycling Weekly has no chance against the internet. What I'd love them to do is more in depth articles, interviews with riders like Adam, Richard and Pete running to a few pages with a nod to history. If more people get to know these athletes then it will inspire others to want to try.

When you say the bbar isn't what it used to be, consider the performances of the top 6 in particular last year. They were incredible. Some of the best testers in the country trying their very best to win the competition.
Duggleby, Bideau, Harrison, Turnbull, Donaldson, Grieves.
Doesn't really match your narrative of it not being what it was.
