Just saw lots of people in cars going to work. I wasn't in the least concerned, as they were only using their vehicles for transportation and therefore weren't motorists, you know, those dangerous types that drive cars.

So, people who only ride bikes for transportation aren't cyclists. Get real, please!

Anyone that buys and then uses a bike, automatically becomes a cyclist. They may not be YOUR kind of cyclist, but a cyclist is what they are. I'm not a bit interested in speed, buying what everyone else buys or looking like any particular type of cyclist. I cycle more than some people use their cars, but I don't race, I don't wear lycra and I have no idea whether or not I am 'fashionable'. I don't ride 'fashionable' bikes and I haven't got disc brakes. What I have got, is an arthritic back, type 1 diabetes and a love of functional bikes which are built by me to suit my needs. Oh, and I am a cyclist, I ride a cycle.

Latest incarnation. I made my own expandable inserts for the brake levers by adapting alloy wall plugs of the correct diameter. I also made the mudguard extensions.

Really nice levers. What are they and where did you get them? I double wrapped the bars on my humble machine and have been surprised at the difference in comfort. I have a soft spot for mixte frames, and that's a corker!

Now with a shiny new retro chrome pump and re-positioned bottle cage. This modest bike serves my everyday shopping needs perfectly. Single speed and a nice comfy saddle.

Now with front rack, (adapted by me), and swish chain guard.

Now updated slightly. Sprung saddle for my arthritic back. Bars adjusted etc.

So true. I have specific requirement from a bicycle as I have an arthritic back and hips. Both my bikes were put together by me to fulfil a purpose, and were built with an eye on cost and functionality. The main criteria being comfort and practicality.
