alternatively I was looking at this road bike which seems to have an almost identical spec to the BTWIN I had

yes its not a cyclocross but the sora groupset treated me well before and the wheels on this have more spokes which makes me think it should be stronger.

Hi Guys,
About a year ago I posted a thread on here about buying a bike. The requirement was something that could handle my 140kg frame and would be good for commuting. After much discussion on here I purchased a BTWIN Triban 520. It served me well and after upgrading the back wheel it was strong and sturdy and gave me 6 months of solid daily commuting (18miles per day).
Unfortunately my bike was stolen when locked outside the gym in Ealing, but this gives me an excuse to buy a new bike on the cycle to work scheme.
I am looking at a cyclocross as we have some nice canal paths and tracks on the way to work in surrey and I was always a little worried about taking the Triban there.
I was looking at this cyclocross:

what do you guys think? I am still a novice when it comes to bike specs but that back wheel looks a little fragile, is my weight going to be an issue on this bike?

I will deff look into cycle training, never be scared to learn and all that. If it can help keep me safe and not get put off cycling I guess its deff worth looking into.
Will deff stay on the forum and keep upto date with drinks etc. I think I am risking the thread becoming a blog right now though, which might annoy everyone :| lol

First cycle complete! Took just over 50 mins to travel 10 miles i was travelling at a somewhat modest pace.
I think I have my seat a little too low, I believe this along with my naturally outward pointing feet is causing my heel to touch the chain a little when turning right. I'll try putting the seat up tonight and see if that fixes it.
Unfortunately the key for the Kryptonite D lock I bought has bent in the lock on the second use :( not sure if I was too rough with it or what) but I'll contact Evans (where I bought it) and see if they can help :(

The stock pedals on my new Cube Attain were aweful and started falling apart within a couple of weeks.
I bought these to replace them:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/wellgo-v8-copy-flat-pedals/rp-prod563
When I fitted them they seemed to be screwing in tight but I just carried on :| now one of the pedals has fallen off and when I tried to tighten it the hole was too big and the pedal spindle was moving in it freely. I'm not sure if these pedals were too big or if I just knackered the thread.
So my question is do pedals come in different sizes? Should these pedals have been ok on my Shimano Sora crankset?
How do I fix this? Do i need to replace the crankset ?
