I'm currently enjoying 46/17 on my Cube Agree GTC Pro here in Ayrshire. Pretty hard going on some of the hills but I'm averaging +1 to +2mph on my normal commutes than I did when it was geared! Plus that combo is the "magic gear" which I happened upon first attempt! Result!

For my CX bike 40/18 does me for the moment in most cases.

Yeah never thought of doing that actually, thanks! Going to experiment later this week. Currently doing an SS conversion on my Cube Agree GTC Pro, blasphemy? Probably, but the 105/ultegra stuff is being donated to the better half's bike :)

That's the shortest I can get it, otherwise, like said, the jockey interferes with the sprocket. When I had the 36/17 combo on there was about 2mm clearance! I'm going to revisit the whole tensioner method asap - want did of the butchered mech though it does do its job!

I would prefer the push-up method and will look into how to achieve that with the derailleur, it wasn't obvious to me at the time lol

Looks like it'll have to be that way for me with the TCX, too! The engineering shop don't want to weld the frame and I can understand why, especially considering the abuse the bike will be taking, can't risk a breakage!... Back to the drawing board!

Yeah it does stick out a bit but can take a bit of a battering without moving position due to setting the adjustment screws - got the job done for a few weeks anyway!

Yip Irvine was my first race on a SS, tough work with that headwind in the valley! Didn't do quite as well as I would have on a geared bike but that's to be expected! Not sure who came up with the name, Neil I guess from the club (walkers cycling).

New to the site but thought I'd make a quick post just to get my feet wet so to speak!

I've had a 2012 Giant TCX for almost 3 years and just this year started taking part in CX races here in Scotland. Great fun but just to make life more difficult I went SS.

The pic is of my temporary setup which consists of a 17T cog with spacers on the standard hub, and a DIY tensioner. The tensioner is just an old Sora? Rear mech which I cut off the lower jockey wheel. I've race with this setup and it has been fine, no issues!

The TCX is currently at the engineering shop having track style rear forkends manufactured and welded in place to eliminate the tensioner.

Don't have a full shot of the bike but done a few changes! Will get some shots one I get the bike back!
