The bb is the Stronglight Jp400 107.5mm (ordered 107mm that's recommended by SL but received 107.5mm) can't be put in wrong way round cos the drive side cup is fixed to the bb body. Symetrical spindle and the drive side arm fitted nicely with a good chainline, pretty sure there's a fault with the taper on non drive arm!
Weren't these recalled for some reason a while back? -
Recently purchased these cranks from Planet X and today I tried to fit them along with the recommended Stronglight JP400 JIS BB.
BB went in fine then the drive side crankarm went on with a smearing of grease on the mating surfaces and the bolt torqued to 40nm with no bother. Went to fit the other crankarm again with a smear of grease but upon torquing, the bolt just kept turning to the point where the crank arm was touching the bottom bracket cups!!!
I heard that there were some QC issues with these relating to the tapers but I'm just wondering if anybody on here has had any issues with em? -
Been a while but after emailing Planet X they recommended I send the crankset and BB back for inspection.
It's been a few weeks since I sent them but on Thursday I had a response and they said "After an inspection the non-drive side crank arm was found to be out of tollerance and bottomed out."
They offered a replacement but I opted for a full refund cos on Wednesday I bought some other cranks from the LFGSS classifieds.
Stronglights quality control can't be all that and/or Planet X may have an older batch of cranks that I've heard had some tolerance problems.
