  Hey all,

  So I just switched jobs and my commute has gone from a 5 minute walk, to what looks like a 20 min cycle. Hoxton ( / Shoreditch) to central Soho. The route I'm thinking is straight down Old St > Clerkenwell Road > Holborn > Shaftesbury ave and up Dean St.

  I actually haven't done a cycle commute in London and perhaps even more of a roadblock: don't have a bike.

  So two questions for this amateur - what's the solid/reliable best single-speed I can pick up within a week for let's say £400 or less. Nice to have's would be narrow riser bars and a quill stem (the former as I like to ride with them, the latter largely for looks).

  Secondly, I'm sure these are universal but any tips for a new commuter would be much appreciated.
