So, with a new spirit of being a better cyclist, I stopped at a yellow light at Ludgate Circus on Friday, as it was about to go red. This was followed by a small jolt, at which point I looked behind me and saw, instead of an overeager cycle as I expected, a white van with a fairly apologetic driver. Everything seemed fine, so after a quick check I biked off, only to hear a loudish bang about 200 yards down the road.
Also, I'd forgotten my wallet, oyster and wrench. Fortunately, I had an inner tube, and the staff at Evans across the road were extremely helpful re: lending me tools.Lessons learned:
- don't forget your wallet
- look behind before stopping at yellow/crosswalks
- don't let cars drive off without getting details
No major damage done, but getting tagged from behind is profoundly unsettling, especially when it comes from nominally being more careful..
- don't forget your wallet

To avoid being called out in future, what's generally accepted pedestrian crossing behavior? A HGV driver yelled at me this morning for going through one while a pedestrian was crossing, but they were still well in the opposite lane.
Am I pissing off pedestrians or is this ok? I'm aware that the law probably says 'stop', but I care more about being safe and courteous.
Γεια σας! lsegeorge spotted me on Strava and pointed me at this thread. I'm Alex, I moved to Limssol from London a few months ago. I've been riding mostly gears here (hills!) but I've got a boring but fun Marin fixed gear for going up and down the seafront!
