I'm planning on building a fixed gear bike so a I need a pretty strong and sturdy chain that won't break when I stop, any suggestions? Bare in mind I'm on a tight budget?

On a fixed gear bike, do you not worry about what happens if the chain snaps and you have no breaks to stop you colliding with stuff?
Hi, I'm currently planning on converting an old road bike to a fix gear bike, but I live by loads of hills so I'm worried that I won't be able to ride it anywhere! Can anyone suggest what sort of gear ratio I should be using?
