I'm always killing time looking through thousands of pictures of fixies on line, the bike porn thread on here has wasted a solid week of my life I'd say and I've had countless google searches for fgs and ss bikes and videos.
I've "liked" so many fixie pages on facebook that my news feed is always full of something nice for fixie lovers eyes.

So i've decided I'd compile all the stuff i liked on a facebook page.
filtering all the fixie internet into one page.

a "like" and a "share" on facebook would be great!!
pm the page pics of your bikes and i'll throw them up as well.

    Like and share please!
    Thanks guys

Hi guys, I'm new here, so nice to meet ye.
I've been riding a botched ss for the past year and i decided i'd finally build myself a fixie.

Here’s my Fixie conversion from 1980’s racer,
The original Raleigh winner steel frame bike,
    27 ¼ inch wheels,
    big fat tyres,
    5speed cassette,
    old-school drop bar break leavers,
    very 80’s paint scheme

I used it like this for a while, but the old racers aren’t very solid putting power down through the basic enough cassette- derailleur-gear shifter. I found I wasn’t confident stamping on the crank in traffic because it was likely to jump gears. I decided fixed gear is what I wanted.

Grip tape, breaks and wheels were first to go…

I was originally going to swap out the cassette for spacers and a single speed sprocket and keep the front wheel, doing the conversion on the cheap. The front wheel was in good nick…

The crank is actually pretty solid too so I did keep it, there wasn’t an original front derailleur so there was only a single sprocket crank.

On the old racers there are lots of cable guides and notches to attach mud guards and the like, I was going to grind everything flush to the frame, but I decided I’d keep them.
Thought it was kind of cool, so people looking at the bike would know It was a conversion I built rather than an off the shelf fixie.

I prepped for paint, removed the forks and crank…

Removing the decals was by far the hardest part of the build, they were so old, none of the tips and tricks I looked up online worked, so I took a straight blade to them and nicked a bit of the paint on the frame. I sanded everything smooth, not removing all of the paint, and the bike was ready to paint.
Then I waited, and waited, and waited for a nice day in Ireland to paint the bike in the back garden…

I hung it from a tree, gave it a wipe down with white spirits and sprayed away…

It took a few coats but turned out great,

I brought it back inside and attached the crank, forks and original (cleaned up) bars.

it's all well and good suggesting powder coating and proper spray kits, but in fact a spray can from a motor factors is perfect.
It's the prep work and conditions you spray in that are way more important than the equipment, the viscosity of most canned paints smoothes itself out to a perfect finish anyway so cheap car paint will def give you a perfect finish if you dont spray it like a div!

i just finished a respray on my bike and its perfect, PM me if you want some advice and i'll tell you step by step how I did it!
