I spotted a @31trum all the way out in Horsham! Nice to see a fellow LFGSS member out in the sticks (although I was in full roadie mode) 👋

I just like to be able to clip-in without worrying about the pedal's orientation. They're fine if you're not un-clipping at intersections, but my old commute took me down Embankment and it didn't feel safe setting off in heavy traffic sometimes.
Having said that, I ride SPD-SL on my road bikes and prefer them in pretty much every other way.

I've tried SPDs, SPD-SLs (do not use these fixed please), straps, cages and platforms and finally settled on Egg Beaters as the best all-rounder for riding fixed. You can clip in from any direction (any side of pedal, toe first / heel first / just mash your foot down hard), I haven't had a single unexpected un-clipping in the 3 years I've been riding them fixed and you can use them with most SPD shoes.
