    is it fixed gear too?

nah - I haven't got the knees for that kind of malarky. :)
It's a 48/13 single speed with a coaster brake. The front brake's there as a backup, as I don't quite trust a 30 year old coaster brake all by itself...

    Phew - glad I wasn't tagzumped! :)

(I could stand my bike using the pedals on the verge, so a kickstand isn't necessarily necessary)

Glad you like me bike! Still got a lot of tweaking to do. And cleaning. Mostly cleaning. :P

    Yay! I found one!!

Old: some kinda university building. Not sure how the clue ties in.. Do students wear a lot of black?

New: had to get a train, so will add pic tomorrow, on way into work (or is that against the rules?)

NMPC moved out to Royton and changed their name to match. It's fecking miles away too.

They even have a website now

    http://www.roytonpowdercoaters.co.uk/#!

    gawd, that website is terrible!

Thanks for the info, tho. I might give them a call when I decide on a colour for my other bike. :)

    Hiya

I'm Graham. I've just converted a Carlton Cobra to singlespeed on the cheap. I'm using it to commute between Stockport and Manchester, and I'm expecting it to explode into tiny pieces at any moment!

Bit late to this, but I've heard North Manchester Powder Coating are good..

The trouble is, their phone number no longer works. Does anyone know what happened to them?

In the end, I got my frame done by Stockport Powder Coating, but it was expensive (£60), and I'm not convinced that they cured it properly, as the coating is very easily scratched.

As a skint person needing a crank, should I bother with the nameless steel cranks that go for around £18 on ebay, or should I stick with the cottered 70s Raleigh crank that I've already got?

Hiya! I come here via the magic of not knowing what I'm doing. :) I was trying to fix up an old Carlton Cobra, but every time I looked for info on how to do things, I stumbled across people singing the praises of fixed/ss.

Curiosity got the better of me, so now I have an SS project, and even more questions! :P
