So I've been off my road bike for a while. Various reasons have led to less long distance riding. But with the summer approaching I'm happy to become a fair weather cyclist for the time being. I want to get a new handle bar stem combo, I'm not happy with the aesthetics and feel of my current set up. Would like a parallel stem for starters. Does any one have any advise or recommendations. Here's what it looks like at the moment. Bit of a mess in my mine

Just moved from 48/18 to 48/14
Much more fun on the flats but starting from red lights is going to make me look like a grandpa next to all the multi-gear folks.
On another note, I'm using the EAI Gold Medal cogs and the 18t one has lost most of its 'Gold Medal' coating, is this a sign of retirement or does it make little difference?

I have 2 sets of Royce hubs, one on a road bike and the other on my fixed gear and I can't possibly fault them, they're good looking in an understated way (they are shiny so not that understated). They also roll beautifully and I really noticed the upgrade from stock wheels. I have a Phil Bottom Bracket and the finish on that is gorgeous so I expect the hubs to be of equal quality. For me, the main reason I went with Royce hubs is they're made in the UK and I like to support local manufacturing. Phil Wood are made in the US so if you're over there thats an equally good argument. Either way you can't go wrong with these hubs, perhaps go with whichever you find better looking!
As for cranks, Sugino 75 is fantastic, I've had mine for years and its bombproof. Its not necessarily something that you need to match to your hubs in my mind.
Cheers, @hma any idea what 20 degree stem would be like? Looking at Fizik range of components, they look nice and are pretty good value but they don't do 17 degrees, just 20, which I haven't come across before
