Change of plans....
So, I spoke to Condor who can do this, but they would charge £50 for truing, can do the hub service, but don't have the freehub body. So, I have taken it upon me to do it all myself.
I've figured out that I need 7/32" and 1/4" bearings. (I got some top notch grade 10) and a 5.5mm socket wrench (to replace the UT-HU070 Campag tool for spoke tensioning.)
I will let you know how I get on.
Hi
I don't remember being asked for such job recently, and £50.00 is way too much even if I would include a full hub service. The only reason to justify this, is if I had to completely rebuild the wheel, however, the spokes are hard to find and I don't have a whole set.
Those wheels were native with 8 speed (if I guessed your model), and I do have the original spare ones.
I do have also the Shimano (HG9/10) freehub for old Campagnolo hubs, but they would need to make a custom spacer between axle and freehub -

I think it's very easy to name people we like as being good mechanics, although that isn't always the case.
I would count myself as a fairly normal mechanic, nothing special, but then I'm in the position to have worked with some truly great mechanics, most of which you won't know because they are busy actually doing the work on the bikes that the rest of us are talking about on here.At Brixton Jim is very good, but Nigel is the best there.
At Look Mum Nik does good work (really, really well considering she's fairly new to it!) but I'm sure that she would agree with me that Alexis and Sam are great.
You would never hear Alex (who I work with at Fitzrovia Bicycles) mentioned, but he too is a great mechanic.
Everyone know's Condor does good work, but no one knows that it's Andrea that is doing it.
Ninon is also one of the greats, and it will be a major loss to west London's cyclists when she retires (retyres?) in the next few years. She also, isn't up at nearly midnight posting on the internet.
Please consider this carefully when you are thinking about listing someone as an excellent mechanic, although the ego stroke is nice, I know I'm not ready for the honor yet and that my name has come up because I am well liked.
hi Nat!
thanks for the words, I agree with your view. However, the work of a mechanic is just the end of a process that will include the customer, the salesmen that would deal with him, and all the "supply chain" that's around a repair.
In my case, I will take into account my assistant, which does a considerable help here. Hard to find someone that's tidy, precise, keen to learn, on time. This guy does it, I am lucky ;)
Interesting!
An ED 8sp freehub 1st generation! Haven't seen one in ages! :)
