Heres my tips:
- Practice rev-outs on a staionary bike to raise your max cadence threshold, try beating the number.
- Focus on accelerating as hard as possible at the start.
- Once upto speed "relax" but still mentally try to accelerate.
- Spin the legs when you get home from racing. I didnt once and saw my breakfast lunch and dinner again at 3am!

If you do a lot of standing starts...
I used to have look pedals and tried all of them... Sprint, Keo Carbon, Blades.
But I had too many problems with all of them like the bearings failing, the axle coming off, the springs losing tension etc.
So I tried SPD-SL 105s for £30 and couldn't be happier.
They really do hold me in now.
