Perfect last big training ride before the Marmotte so I'm in:
The slower group: 100k
Circa 4 - 4.25 hours including stops
Sociably paced 15 average with "comfort breaks" if/when required.
No one will be dropped.
If you like a nice ride with good company and the occasional chat this is the one for you.1) Skydancer - Fixed
2) Mothergirl - Fixed
3) Hairnet - SS
4) Oliver Schick - TBC
5) conker (ian) - fixed
6) Velocio - Geared unless I buy another bike before the ride
7) tom k&e - probably SS
8) bothwell - fixedThe fast group - 2×100k:
Sub 3 hours out, no wee stops.
6pt reckons he could do it 19–20mph average solo so we'll be looking to improve on that as a group. I will also endeavour to teach him that his choice of unit is inferior.
People doing the fast ride one way will be frowned upon (unless they happen to carry on for a solo century warm down).1) Hillbilly - Geared
2) Dammit - Geared
3) Object - Geared (Assuming I can convince someone to lead the other group)
4) joe smith - geared up to the eyeballs
5) FridayMarch26th
6.pt - Geared
7) zanda - geared
8) laner - fixed probably
9) avellana - geared (will continue North)
10) mmccarthy - SS
11) mountaingoatmatt - geared

OK I've read most of this very entertaining thread and learned a fair bit about bicycle engineering in the process (I've realised I was talking very inaccurately about shaft v. chain drive to a motorcycling friend recently).
I'm convinced by No-fork and I think the bike looks really cool and seems to work perfectly well enough for most people's cycling needs i.e. getting from A to B.
This does seem like the exact kind of debate which should be settled with a duel/ race.

!!! GONE GONE GONE GONE GONE !!!
Through some of my own stupidity and some misfortune I got my brake lever caught in my front wheel the other week and had a high speed face to face encounter with Camden Road.
Thankfully my face has fixed itself but my frame is not so lucky.
I took it into the nice chaps at Oak cycles who measured it up and told me that the headtube seems to be at a 2 degree steeper angle than it should be (I forget the exact measurement) and the fork is quite bent (currently unuseable but maybe repairable) and the headset probably needs new bearings/replacing altogether.
Otherwise the frame is in great condition, not many scratches in the lovely lemon pearl paint job and doesn't seem to have any cracks from the crash. It might be rideable with a new fork but will be an odd geometry.
Realistically I'm probably never going to fix it and, due to bad vibes, am unlikely to ever ride it again however, it would be a shame to scrap it.
So any brave person fancying a good looking, weird shaped, cheap as free frame to fix up is welcome to it.
It is a road frame, probably a Raleigh but was apparently restored by Mercian two owners before me so has no decals except the 531 stickers.
I think it is 60cm but feels a little smaller, has Gipiemme ends with adjusters and gear hanger (130mm rear spacing) and comes as pictured.
Collection only in N7.
tl;dr - Free large frame, nice colour, bit bent up front
