Thanks for your great work Peterc! Although I can't offer to fund you, I have just ordered one of your pet trackers for my bike now, I hope that helps to fund your R&D.

My biggest issue with your product is the short battery life because I'm cycle touring so I can't always charge it. But no discredit, it's a very small device so the battery must be small.

My other issue is that I would like to have the backup of a rough location using network mast triangulation if GPS fails (ie. when the extremely selfish theif takes the bike in his house!) Knowing which area of town your stolen bike is in is a thousand times better than the powerless feeling of being completely clueless!

I'll try to use this pet tracker on my new bicycle, because I can't find anything better that is currently in stock. I'll have it on standby and only request location when I need it, hopefully the battery will last longer.

    Thanks,
    Richard

I saw it at Brick Lane market today at 4pm, a young father (standing alone with just the one bike) sold it for £15 to an old man, who then offered it to me for £20.

Thought I'd post the picture here just in case anyone's looking for it, it was on Sclater Street just off Brick Lane.

...does make me wonder, if I ever see someone selling my stolen bike maybe I can't just punch 'em up, it may have changed hands several times =( I cetainly couldn't hurt the old grandad who was selling it, even if I knew it was mine

Gift from my girlfriend, the first bike I built up from a bare frame...only ridden for 3 weeks...gone overnight! No trace of the thick cable combination lock which was securing the frame to a cycle rack/stand.

Stolen on Tuesday 26th April 2011 between 0200-1600 hours from outside Coltash Court, 152 Whitecross Street, London EC1Y 8QL which I've since learnt is a cycle theft hotspot!

The 25" Raleigh Royal 531 touring frame is very large and distinctive alone, but if it still has the parts I put on it it'll really stand out:

    • extra long straight quill stem
    • white charge riser bars (coloured black with permanent marker wearing off!)
    • gold anodised components taken off my old Raleigh Record Sprint: Weinmann caliper brakes, single chainring and crank arms
    • no derailleur, 5-speed freewheel but set as single speed
    • shifters hack sawn off to leave simple shimano brake levers
    • shimano M520 SPD clipless pedals black/silver
    • thin alloy rims front and back with Armadillo road tyres
    • can't remember name of the thick wide comfy gel saddle

I don't know why I can't post a photo here yet, I checked filesize but perhaps it's because I just signed up. You can see it on CTC forum: here
