    Thanks all for your advice.
I've gone to a third LBS who is in the process of renewing my chainring (Good call farewell and jonny69).
It does make sense, so I'm hoping it will solve the problem. Will update.
Unfortunately, it also means renewing the freewheel, and chain, which are both less than a month old but hey ho!

It's a solid steel frame, and the chain line is fine.
    A - No
    B - No

I have a single speed that has a new BB, chain, freewheel and rear wheel but I'm still getting a chugging noise when peddling. Two LBS have been unable to solve the problem.
The noise is particularly bad when climbing an incline
I have recorded it but the file is too large to upload here.
    Any ideas?

The Marathon Plus tyres are lovely.
I'd heard that some people found them too solid, and hard to fit but I'd recommend them.
Thanks for the tip on the chain. I'm always told that the cassette needs to be changed with the chain, so I'll definitely keep an eye on this from now on.

    Cheers Edscoble,
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about my LBS.
I've taken it there because I know they do good work at a fair price.
I'm just peeed off at having to spend £190 on a bike that's only eight months old.
The bike has been serviced twice in that time, and eighty miles a week isn't excessive.
I'm just concerned that I'll have to pay the same amount in another eight months.
Thanks for the link. I'm logging off of here to have a good read of Made Good.
    Thanks again.
    And thanks everybody else
    Gary

    Hilly Ben,
The labour charge is around £45.
I need a new chain, rear cassette and BB adjustment/re-greasing.

    Hi Edscoble,
I'm not being argumentative, I appreciate your input.
I really do look after my bike.
I clean and dry it, as soon as I'm home, if it gets wet.
I brush the chain and regularly oil.
My bike is in a LBS.

    Thanks James.
    I wasn't aware of this.
    Much appreciated.
