From SE London (Bromley) look up Eddystone Road and go over footbridge and head towards Peckham Rye - through Rye Lane, Surrey Canal Walk. Cycle route (signed) leads across OKR and takes you to Tower Bridge Road. Pretty quiet and avoid OKR - I reckon its as quick if not quicker. Main roads = traffic signals and traffic, quieter roads = pretty consistent journey time.

I use mine most days and often for longer trips. For those with plenty of time on their hands, and nothing better to do (so sad) I wrote up a London Paris 5 day trip on a 3 speed Brompton http://rgstocker.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/london-to-paris-on-brompton.html I've also signed up for both the Benelux (Antwerp) and Portuguese (Lisbon) National championships this month. Great excuse to see the sights of two of Europes better cities - not to mention Belgium beer and Portuguese wine - I've also taken part in all the Smithfield Nocturnes - must have seen loads of you there. Those pedals look interesting, saves taking a pedal spanner when flying as the pedal was mangled (non folding side) on one flight so I now remove them both.

Great event - happy to marshal, might prefer it to actually getting a formal place. I must watch some TV before ne next one - and perhaps read some young persons journals you folk read. Wouldn't know a famous model TV star even if I had to mend a puncture (2 jobs this ride - release a white (well it was) scarf from the rear wheel outside Buck Pal - much to the amusement of the tourists and provide adjustable spanner to tighten fixies rear wheel - wondered what he was doing running down the pavement with chain hanging down.
Thanks to T & J - nice scotch as well.

I think they are Slovenian... a good local backstreet bike shop that are starting to get a good reputation. Really small terranced house shop with loads of inexpensive second hand bikes - I don't hink his English is that good but her's is fine. There is a good mix of bikes shops in Peckham (SE15) now - something for everyone.

Still south of the Thames of course so a no go for many ;-)

Get in touch with the local council - they may like the opportunity to offer something around cycling - not just 'training' but assistance to set-up cycle clubs, maintenance clubs, Dr Bikes etc.

The City of London police used to fine motorists for this - I remember a cycle campaigner asking a policeman at a meeting as to how many vehicle they had fines - expecting a zero response. The numbers were in the hundreds which surprised all of us. That was a few years ago now though.

The ride leaders had a rather fetching pink hi-viz to wear. Not sure I would like to wear this again. Not as many on our lead ride into London (from Greenwich as in previous years - even less going back. Perhaps London Bridge had more cyclists than usual during the day....) Not to omany stands in St James's park but I guess it was quality not quantity this year.

Herne Hill Velodrom has its formal opening Wednesday morning - Mssrs Boardman and Robertson (sports minister) opening. Anyone going to the meet on Sunday - and perhaps staying for the free bike powered film afterwards - Breaking Away?
