Ian Tait worked in a Wandsworth bike shop in the late 70's early 80's. He was a perfectionist. His Roberts road bike was at the time the best I'd ever seen. His track bike was used for road with brakes front and rear and was just as well cared for. He sold it to a friend of mine in 1988. Colin now needs to move the bike on. Its campag chainset and campag large flange wheels and BB. Everything works as new. The frame was resprayed by Paul Maudie of Horton Kirby. This bike comes with total provenance from new. Colin is an unusual 6'7 tall and Ian was 6'4 when I last was him in the 80's ! So if you're a fixed wheel fan and looking for a new steed of old and you're rather tall this could be yours. Colin is looking for just £300 ono which I think is rather cheap, but he just wants a real enthusiast to buy the Rob. Just ping me if interested. Based in Dartford Kent.

Bought in 1979 for £30 in original chrome. Used for 10 and 25 mile mile time trails 1979-1981. PB 24.01 in 1981 aged 16 (48x16). Now aged 46, the chrome long rusted, a respray in british racing green and cream and last night 26.52 (48x15) after 30 years. Brought back many memories... can I get back down to the PB?? Apart from the frame the pedals and brake lever are the same. I have the original SR chainset but treated her to a new one.

Both days were breezy from memory - April 1980 so early in the season. I got down to a
24-01 which is 25mph on 81" fixed which became my gear of choice. Once you got it turning you just revved and revved. If the course was a rolling road you could fly up the drags. I always found fixed a better option in time trials. When I rode gears I tended to changed to much and loose time. Three years later I did a 25miler and was hoping to go under the hour (25mph ave).I did a 1-2-37 on the Sunday and the the following day - bank hol Monday in August I did 1-1-12 which remains my pb. Just 73 seconds shy of 'going under'. Tri bars would have seen me under the hour but they were not invented then. I'm still proud of that ride. Even in the early eighties not many rode fixed. I won the the fixed wheel prize - £3. Then I undid the wheel and turned it around for a 64 inch gear and rode the 28 mile ride back home.
Apols all. Bike SOLD immediately.
