Remember to keep an eye on Gumtree. That is where I found my stolen bike for sale.

Good to hear your friend got a policeman to investigate, I got a letter dated 2 days after I reported the theft, 'We have reviewed the crime but so far there is not enough evidence to continue with further inquiries and the case will now be closed. However if we get any new evidence we will of course act on that new information.

We appreciate that this decision may be disappointing to you...............'

    No policeman for me.

I shouldn't have to pay, I agree, but it was my own stupidity I am paying for, had I locked it up I would not have had any of this grief.

In addition, don't want to get into a confrontation with the guy and all the nonsense that that will bring. Maybe Mr. Fixit..........

I have informed the police about what we did, have a description of John for the police. But the best they can get him for is possession of stolen property, a tap on the wrist and off he goes to steal another bike. Jail is not the right place for this guy as jail is a goofy idea for all but the worst, putting all the bad guys together in one place and then let them out. Hmmmm wonder what happens next????

Tag him and he will take the tag off and go steal another bike.

I am getting off track, I have my bike back without any fuss and that is most important. If the police, lawyers and courts can get it together to impose some sensible penalty and maybe order him to pay me back then fine. I can wait.

A bit of I lost the battle but might win the war type thinking. Also lesson learned.

Is it right, is it fair, not a chance but it is the place we are at.

Well, Gumtree in Kent does a better job of finding bikes than the police!! Fond an ad with no picture, scant details describing my Condor, call the police who say you have to see the bike to identify it is yours before we send anyone out, phone 'John' who placed the ad who agreed to see me, said I wanted a bike for my son's birthday, John was quite obliging, I coughed up £140, got my bike back sans rear rack, have now learned an expensive lesson, lock it up ALWAYS no matter where you are and use a good lock. Won't make the same mistake twice.

Also learned that gumtree seems to have separate sites for different areas. John posted the ad 5 days ago and I just found it this morning.

A lapse of sanity cost me my red Condor Fratello. I was in Chelsfield, dead end street and leafy area just when someone decided to case the neighborhood. The only difference from the picture is a new Kamsin wheel set and the handle bar tape now has red flecks in it. Been checking Gumtree and ebay but nothing. What happened to bikeshed?? they were posting all the pictures of new bikes put onto ebay and gumtree and then the site went down. If you happen to see it could you let me know when and where or call the police and give them this number, CRIS 3320062/10. Thanks.
