True. A few mins before this I heard something crack but it sounded and felt like a tooth on a chainring. I checked it over but couldn't find anything so I set off taking it steady as I went. It was an ace bike and I was getting used to riding a non mtb. I've been looking at CX bikes as that might be the answer to what I'm looking for- strong lightish and fun.
Also I snapped an old record sprint last year but that was at the drop outs and it just meant a (very) long walk home. Maybe I need to take it easier but my 18 years of DH riding on big bikes have left me wanting to go big and hard.

Hi all
I've been a member of LFGSS for a few years but only recently have I been back on this forum. Some of the bikes on here are amazing and a joy to look at. Anyway, last year I retired from downhill racing and was gutted (I've quite a few old injuries and now have arthritis in my knee and elbow) so I wanted something new to ride that could fill a big hole in my life. My best mate managed to sort me with a new(ish) frame- a cannondale! In the MTB world I stayed well away from 'em. We heard all sorts of bad things about them and one name that went around was 'crack and fail'.
It was a great bike. Fast, responsive and light but most of all it was fun. I really didn't know that a Cannondale could be that much fun. In the summer I ended up doing 60+ mile rides in a day. It was different to DH but it filled in massive gap in my life. It was brill! On January 2nd I went for a new year bike ride to shake off the Christmas cheese and blow away the cobwebs. I decided to head to the hills with my camera on a lovely sunny day. I set off on a main road giving it some with my legs of iron (well, lead really). Traffic was quite heavy with big lorries overtaking me so I went for cycle path instead.
About 5 seconds after taking the cycle path this happened. I fell through my bike, not off it. One dislocated finger, a massive shock and the feeling that I'd been punched by the Hulk.
And that's my Cannondale story

The replacement Cove.
A lovely light Ti frame. Really surprised at the weight of it even with the wheels and everything on. Heavies bit is the forks, but bombers aren't known for their weightweenie attraction. I prefer Marzocchi to Fox. I don't have to keep on top of servicing but I will loose performance as the seals go. I've got a half link chain and an eccentric BB to go on as it'll be singlespeed
The tyres on there are Michelin 1.95's. A bit of a mystery to me as I've not used such a skinny tyre in over 7yrs. For the past 4yrs I've been using nothing smaller than 2.3". They'd be great for cyclocross. But I can't imagine riding my local trails on them
Still need brakes, BB spacers, grips and a saddle.
One of the most awesome Ti mountain bikes out there mate. I have two coves ( a hustler and a f'narr f'narr Stiffee)
Loverly :)

Nah, we'd given it a damn good check over before we built it up. I think it was my riding it in a way it wasn't meant to be ridden. Great bike and had a lot of fun on it.
