Can be fine line between too loose and too tight. You will sometimes feel some drag when turning the axle with your fingers but would hope not to feel any when you spin the wheel. Sometimes if you leave it just a little loose the pressure when you clamp the wheel in tightens it just enoughn to make it perfect. Hard to describe in words....

I'd appreciate some advise on what to do with this 1960 Viking Hostiller. An old friend bought it in 1960 to ride to work on but after getting a car a few years later it spent the next forty five years or so laying around in his spare room. I've converted it to single speed, built new wheels using the original hubs and re-conditioned it generally. I was hoping my girlfriend might want it as it's too small for me but she's not really interested. So now I'm not sure what to do. I'd thought about going fixed as It's got flip-flop hub and the fifty year old brakes don't exactly inspire confidence in the 21st century but I'm not convinced it is really the right type of frame for fixed. It's a lovely bike and I want to do right by it.
What do you think??????

Hi - new to the board but been riding fixed for a few years now. Although thinking of putting together a new ride (with gears!!). Any ideas...perhaps a 29er for the road or an internal hub geared bike? Also anyone go to Euro Bike this year?
29er's worth thinking about. I'm riding a single speed, rigid fork, steel frame 29er and it rules. I've got two cogs on the back one for road one for off road. It's great fun and puts a smile on my face every time I ride. Them big wheels just keep on rolling......
Thanks for all the interest. I'll be in touch shortly.
