I need a steel 56cm or Med road frame for commuting. Needs to have room/eyelets for full length guards. I was riding a 531 Bob jackson, so after something similar. Needs 130mm spacing and pref take a 27.2mm seatpost, English BB. Just need a bare frame, just looking to swap over components, seller must be able to post. Either lugged steel or modern, anything considered, power coated etc.

    Cheers

    As title says.

I currently have a full Carbon Merida and dont like it! I'm wanting a steel bike to build all the components onto. Something nice, light, 853,Viner, Scapin, needs 130mmm spacing and A headset.

    Cheers

Yeah the guy had those fitted when I bought it. Not sure what to do with it, debating SS but it has a freehub 6 speed, I think that's more hassle to convert. I might steal the wheels from my Bob Jackson and fit a cassette type SS kit I have lying around.

    Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and have only been back on the road bike for 1 1/2 years now. Have mainly been a mountain biker. I have only built one SS, which was a Dialled bikes Prince Albert, which I got lucky with my chain length, but worked well.

Anyway, I now have a few geared road machines incuding a Bob Jackson 531 commuter, with full guards and racks. I also have a Merida Scultura 905 full carbon.

I was just browsing out local gumtree and bought this steed, not sure if its any use, but I liked the geometry and it seems nicely put together (rear brake brace, DL on fork crown etc.). Does anyone know what type of tubing its likely to be, i'm assuming Reynolds 531c as forks are 531. I weighed it and the bike comes in at 21lb 9oz, I also weighed my merida and it weighs 19lb 9oz. This suprised me, I have a notion to try and build a sub 20lb steeler. I was thinking of building the merida componets onto the Dave Lloyd, but then a SS would also be nice. Decisions decsions. I would maybe even consider restroing to original type spec but am unsure what I would need, full shimano 600 maybe? Think the wheels are period.

    Some info regarding spec.
Mavic 501 Hubs (I think) on Campag Omega rims
    Shimano 105 brakes
    Cheap Sora chainset
    Shimao 600 mech.

I have hopefully attached some pics.

    Thanks

    Ivan

Just fit the threared headset nut further down the steerer than you are cutting, then just mark with a bit of tape, so you cut straight, or I use a 4 1/2 grinder with the very thin cuttuing discs. Then just wind the nut off to clean the threads, a quick file and sorted.
