Hi
I'm putting this in the mechanics section as it's probably the place for someone who knows what they're doing or is prepared to spend a bit of money on repairs. I got this frame for free about a month ago from the local tip and thought my luck was in but after spending time on it I've realised it's beyond my capabilities or budget and maybe someone here would like to take it on.
The rear chain and seat stays and forks were chromed but were in a terrible state. I removed most of the chrome and then had the frame sand blasted and primed. The sand blasting has shown pitting in the stays worse than I expected and in it's current condition is probably dangerous. On closer inspection it seems that maybe these aren't the original stays as it looks like replacement chain stays have been welded into the originals and the seat stay brazing around the seat lug looks fudged. The forks aren't great but look like they just need some prepping. Whilst the "repairs" were undertaken I'm also guessing that some bosses were brazed on as I'm not sure thay did braze on shifter bosses then?? No doubt someone will correct me.
I've done some research and I'm guessing it was made about 1960. The frame no. is Q1242.
The seat tube is 59cm ctc and top tube 58cm. Frame and forks weigh 2.5kgs, frame 1.7kgs. I don't know what the tubing is.
So is there anybody interested in taking this on? It's free but postage of £15 is required to send it from the Isle of Man. If nobody wants it then it's going back to the tip.
Dibs, pm the usual way.
Here's some photies of before and after sandblasting. -
My last project:
first i was like:
but then
before you start your critics, know that 90% of parts (everything except chain and grips) was found at the street, recycled from old broken bikes which nobody cared about.
main purpose for this bike is snowy streets and riding/running with my dog on the beach :)Perfect for what you need

I don't believe it. For the first time I've spotted a Hilary Stone post early and of all the 26 seatposts the one person before me has dibsed the one I need for my 84 PSV Peugeot. 2nd dibs on no. 63.
Anybody any idea what a 1960 ish Harry Quinn seat post size would be. I have only the frame and no old seat posts to try.
It was not good under the rear chrome, had to come off, otherwise I wouldn't have touched it. It's now off to Stockport for a new life.
