Please do keep your eyes peeled!

    Really appreciate all your points.

Though I'm in no rush to sell - particularly for sub-£1k (a couple friends would buy for mates rates). I'm also not bloody-minded enough to not consider offers. Or is that not really a thing here?

I also totally agree on its 'niche-y-ness', and that splitting would be more effective... But I've done that before and what an ache indeed!

I'm sure that the bike's potential will overlap with SOMEONE'S plans of world domination <3

Yep. Enough clearance for switching over to fatter tyres if you fancy.

Nothing like an early heckle-post to intimidate the less experienced lfgss members into a quick sale (:

This is what I think the bike is worth. If you're interested in it feel free to make an offer with your budget - as others have. Or you can reach out for a chat on the phone - also as others have done. For anything else, thanks for sharing and best of luck in your search.

*** UPDATE: THIS BIKE HAS NOW BEEN STOLEN ***

Very good condition custom built Surly Ogre. Without doubt the best performing, most fun bike I have ever owned. Some inevitable cosmetic scuffs but Surly's paint is renowned for being fantastic in brushing off well with blemishes - and crucially protecting from rust.

    *** London collection for £1370 (for delivery with Sherpr.com, add £100) ***

This is the 2016 suspension-corrected (80mm) fork model. I have owned it from new. To build this bike again today will another £1,000-£1,500.

You may already know about the amazing, far-reaching Ogre but if not here's what Surly says...

"Exploration, commuting, trailer-pulling, on-road, and off-road touring. Ride it to the office during the day, rip some local single-track after work, use it to tote crates of freakishly-large tubers next weekend, and tour that stretch of off-the-beaten-path double-track next month. With Ogre, you can do that."

    *** USAGE HISTORY ***

In terms of mileage, I have ridden the bike carefully for 3 years on a 5-mile commute in London. Always kept indoors when not riding (both at home and at work). I have unfortunately not taken it for any big trips or touring, although it certainly is built for it. I had originally intended to but regretfully, life got in the way and it never happened... Having said that, this is probably a positive story for the it's new owner (:

    *** MEASUREMENTS ***

Surly Large frames are built at the 54–58cm range of bikes.

This is suitable for someone around 180cm-190cm / 5 foot 11 inches to 6 foot 3 inches tall.

    I am 180cm / 5 foot 11 inches. My inside leg is 84cm / 33 inches.

    *** GENERAL DESCRIPTION ***

With this bike you really are tapping into the minds of mechanics and riders who have been trying to give the people the chance to not only build up a bike in one particular style of riding but build up a bike that can do it all. Like so many cyclists, my life has been spent in search for the elusive 'everything bike'. Although it simple cannot exist, this Surly - surely - comes close! The Ogre frameset builds up into one of the most favoured touring bikes to date, at an affordable price. It adds significantly to comfort, traction, and flotation, while maintaining a more ‘normal’ mountain bike feel on both pavement and trails.

The bike comes complete with the oh-so-famed Jones Loop handlebars, which give a great deal of variety of hand positions. Useful when repurposing and re-tooling a bike to different riding positions (relaxed-commuting, upright-touring, flat-out-aero, in-control-ascending-and-descending). The bars also have plenty of space for attaching lights, horn, bar-bag, etc.

I spent over a year researching a robust riding style, frame brand, local bike store to advise me with best compatibility of individual component and overall build. And what a result it was. Due to upcoming relocation, I cannot justify keeping the 'Bat-mo-bike' - as lovingly named by my mates.

    *** TECHNICAL DETAILS ***

The Surly brand of steel frames have a nice geometry and well thought out sets of braze-ons (including two water bottle mounts, four sets of three-pack bosses, mid- and low-blade fork eyelets, threaded holes) for disc brakes, racks, fenders, and trailer mounting nuts, and a Rohloff OEM2 axle plate slot Horizontal slotted dropouts with Gnot-Boost spacing, a tweaked non-suspension corrected geometry, and a beefier tire clearance — but in a 29er platform. The chainstay yoke is designed to be fully compatible with both 29 x 2.5” and 27.5+ tires.

    *** London collection for £1370 (for delivery with Sherpr.com, add £100) ***

    Hi Phil, here's my rationale:

    New Parts
    £814.95 - 20% (£162.99) = £651.96

    Old Parts
    £646.71 - 50% (£323.36) = £323.36

    Total
    £975

I'm planning a three-week bike tour along the Baltic Coast and into Denmark mid-next year so to make this possible I really can't go lower than this already reasonable number.

Absolutely beautiful, responsive and comfortable; a 5-Speed Tempo that could easily switch in between that and single speed.

[PHOTOS TO BE ADDED SHORTLY - still currently at the Condor workshop in order to maintain unused parts' brand newness]

    Colour: Slate
Sizes: 55cm (I am 180cm/5'11'' tall and I find it very comfortable)
    Frame weight: 1900g (painted)
    Fork weight: 580g
    Fits up to 28mm tyres

The original price was just over £1400.

Reason for the bike being over 60% brand new is due to a successful insurance claim after a very minor crash. The forks had a small hairline fracture and the frame had a superficial scratch; the rest of the new pieces were added as a formality; and the remaining components were unaffected and signed off by the Condor mechanic.

    Brand new parts:

(BRAND NEW) Frame: Dedacciai SAT 14.5 Triple-butted Steel Slate £649.99
(BRAND NEW) Fork: Condor Pioggia Carbon £inc
(BRAND NEW) Bars: Deda RHM01 £24.99
(BRAND NEW) Brookes Bar Tape £44.99
(BRAND NEW) Brake Levers: Condor Road £24.99
(BRAND NEW) Stermey Archer Bar-end Lever £inc
(BRAND NEW) Mudguards: SKS Chromoplastic Mudguards Black £34.99

Total value of brand new parts: £814.95

That leaves the following components that are 12 months old and in very good to mint condition:

    Stem: Deda Zero1

    Front Hub: Sturmey T30
    Rear Hub: Sturmey SRF5 (5-speed)
    Rims: Condor Race
    Tyres: Schwable Durano 700 x 28
    Spokes: Double Butted Black

    Seat Post: Condor Strada Alloy
    Saddle: Brookes B17

    Chainset: Condor Supremacy 48T
    Bottom Bracket: Miche primato bb
    Chain: Izumi Silver
Pedals: choose from... DMR V12 Black (with powerstraps) ...or... Shimano A530 silver (flip/flop SPD/flat platform)

Original value of 12 month old parts: £646.71

    Other technical information:

    • Bottom bracket: BSA
    • Seat tube (internal): 27.2mm
    • Seat tube (external): 31.8mm
    • Headset: 1-1/8" integrated

    Here's Condor's spiel:
"Pure functionality combined with Condor's unmistakably clean design. It’s everything a fixie should be, and then everything a good road bike should be too. Using tubing and geometry inherited from the Fratello, the Tempo is simple, comfortable and built to last. Forward facing dropouts allow you to remove the rear wheel even when mudguard and rack equipped."
