Hello,
Hoping someone can help me. I was at last months Critical Mass, and while there my pannier was knocked off of my bike. It happened near the junction of Clarkenwell Road and Farringdon Rds, actually on a little side street Herball Hill.
Another cyclist picked it up but so far I havent heard anything about it. They had a light or white coloured frame and saddle. If you know who that person was or what they did with my bag please let me know. Im really hoping another cyclist wouldn’t have just run off with my pannier and bits and pieces.
Thanks people.

I always used to ride home through Burgess park to Peckham, and sometimes late at night. On once occasion it was late, and dark, and I think to myself Ill ride the road way to be safe.
Im riding down the side of the park when from out of nowhere I get a fairly hefty blow to the top of my head. I cant see anyone around me, and didn’t hear anyone. Luckily Im earing my lid which deflects the piece of brick or rock which was thrown. Unfortunately it deflected off of my lid and directly onto my hand splitting my finger open.
I didn’t stop to see what was going on. I kept my head down and pedalled hard. Even though Id never heard about this happening I was pretty sure I didn’t want to go off in search of the people who'd done this.
My lid had a sizeable dent in it. If I wasn’t wearing a lid, the item thrown [from above] may well have knocked me out.
So in the 6 years of riding through Burgy Park, both morning and night, the only time I had any trouble was when I rode around it!

I know this post was dead but I think I need to go through the 'nursery' and this is a related thread...
I lost [or was stolen] my pannier bag at last nights Critical Mass in London [25/06/2010]. Things got a little hectic due to a massive police intervention/overreaction [surely not] and it was possibly knocked off of my bike at the point. This occurred on one of the following - Vine Hill, Eyre St Hill, or Back Hill off of Clarkenwell Road.
If anyone has picked up a black Altura pannier Id be most grateful for its return and even offer a cash reward for it, and it contents.
Hope the community can help =)
Thanks.

Hey Im not saying it happens all the time, that was the only trouble Ive had [apart from the weird old guy talking to himself and throwing fireworks! =) ], and I agree serious caution should be taken before going through wide open empty areas [as per edscobles post].
Just throwing in my experience from cycling in that area and pointing out you need to stay aware, even when you take the 'safe option'.
